Blue paint to match the HF tool chest?

Anyone find an aftermarket paint that matches the harbor freight boxes?



Well, I had this great idea to do a google search right after I posted here! Doh!

Someone somewhere said Rustoleum Ink Blue is an almost perfect match.

So, since there is so much interest in this issue , I decided to try a couple Rustoleum colors that I thought looked close. (actually saw them by accident at HD looking for something else)

Here's the results....neither are perfect.

The first one (satin ink blue) wasn't dry when I took the picture and it is satin, so it may change as it dries. I'll take another picture when it does if it looks different.

Last two are the same color, gloss deep blue.

Surprised I missed this thread when posted. I got the blue 26" box and grabbed a can of the Gloss Deep Blue at HD hoping it would be a match. Haven't used yet but glad it see it will be pretty close.

So far, I'd pick the deep blue between these two. Don't know if there are others that are closer or not. Plus the gloss is closer to the toolbox.

BTW, those new cans spray pretty nice.

The table next to this box is the Sail Blue, just for a reference. Obviously not a match. My shop has a lot of the Sail Blue in it.

I doubt seriously that Home Depot can match rattle can paint. I tried to have them do it for rustoleum’s sunrise red, and they couldn’t even get close. Neither could Sherwin-Williams.

As for Harbor freight blue paint, there’s no guarantee that the gloss deep blue will be a match for the next lot of tool boxes.

Most definitely, but I like the convenience of the rattle can. And the new Rusto cans spray pretty darn good.

Most any tractor supply store or even auto parts store should have something in Ford Tractor Blue.

Now not saying if its the correct stuff but worth a look into. There is at least 3 different shades if I understand right there is Old Ford Blue, New Ford Blue, Ford Engine Blue.

Seems though any decent paint place can just color match for you

I'm building a custom frame for 3 blue HF 44" boxes and want to find a paint code that matches from one of the big paint manufacturers such as Benjamin Moore, Kelly Moore, Sherwin Williams, etc. I'm also spraying an adjacent door the same color so everything matches.

Is there anyone who has the blue boxes and a color fan chart from any of the paint manufacturers that could do a match for me and let me know which one most closely matches?

Boxes are on order and probably 3 weeks out and I'm trying to paint everything before the boxes show up.

I don't know. But I'd like to know what is the best match for future reference. I just got the 56" box.

I have the blue boxes but no paint colors to match it or anything I am thinking of a color that would be a match.
