How are the combination wrenches offered by these brands? I know each brand is offered by Snap On, Proto, and Matco, but is the durability and quality a good choice for the money?

I've used Blue Point and Blackhawk... they're fine. I haven't laid hands on a Williams modern combination wrench (but have some offsets, and an adjustable), solid stuff for the money.

My experience with Silver Eagle is limited. However, while I like Matco, I'm not thrilled by Silver Eagle. Someone has a pic of a dual stamped Husky/Silver Eagle socket. If that is the case, just buy Husky. Lol. Got some of their wrenches... they're a little lobster claw, but pretty tough. Got a little Silver Eagle in my work box (issued), and I just can't get behind it. I have a 10mm Silver Eagle wrench that I modified for EGR valves (some vehicles in fleet use 9/16", others have 10mm fasteners)... bent it, easily, by hand to get underneath to the bolts.

The Williams USA line is a good choice for the money. Especially the Supercombo wrenches.

Williams is the only one with a quality made us made wrench. Id go willams. Supperior to the rest of those brands. Silver eagle is made by husky. Blue point being similar to that. Just cheaply made chinese tools.

My metric set is Williams... USA Super-combo... my SAE set is Snap-On... I prefer the Williams set. They're really comfortable in-hand. Only downside is... the larger sizes... the beams get really thick... almost comically thick...

Most of the basic Blackhawk hardline tools are still made in the USA. They have several types of USA made wrenches.

That's how I started out. Ended up selling my SAE Snappys and replacing them with Supercombos. Major difference in comfort versus the Snap-On "dull blade" like beams.

The larger sizes do get excessively thick (and damn heavy). Here's the beam on a 1"...

EDIT:
And a 9/16" for comparison

Holy ****! Bet you could crank down some massive torque with that. Beefy wrench. The handful of Williams I have at work are nowhere near that size.

I have a set of Williams Supercombos and agree with everything mentioned above. The only thing that bugs me a little is the size stampings are small and hard to read compared to most other brands, and that's really nit picking. The fit, finish, and ergonomics are top notch in my opinion.

Agreed. The SAE sizes are easy to read, but the smaller metrics I end up double checking (12mm vs 13mm, 8mm vs 9mm).

I highly recommend the williams i think they're the best bang for your buck very high quality. We have alot of blackhawk wrenches at work and they stand up good to lots of abuse. I just bought a set of the silver eagles and haven't got to use them yet but they seem pretty decent for the money. I ended up with a 1/4 to 3/4 set for right at 30 bucks off ebay which is hard to beat for that price.

Both williams and blue-point have given me years of hard service.

I can't comment on the other two, although I always felt matco wrenches had a spreading problem when I worked as an alignment tech.

Do the Williams Taiwan wrenches get the OK for non-professional use?

I have some Williams USA Kobalt brand wrenches and those are excellent, if the modern USA ones are similar they are good quality. Blackhawk USA wrenches I have a couple, are also pretty good.

Silver eagle, blue point, and Williams Taiwan, save money and get the cheapest ones you can find. No reason to pay for a name.

I have used silver eagle quite a bit. It has never failed me yet. If I were to ever need a replacement they have lifetime warranty.

I've known a few people that had Blackhawk ratcheting wrenches and they seemed to work great for them. I used a set of blue point wrenches for a while. They work decent.

So do Husky ;)
Silver eagle is better [emoji14] Because, Because, Because I spent more and everyone knows if it costs more it's better even if it's the same tool.

I would go with Proto or Blackhawk a long time user of both, Proto from th seventies till now and Blackhawk through both owners and no complaints with either

I don't think there is anything second tier about USA made Blackhawk or Williams hard line tools. Blue Point is consistent quality and probably sourced from the best Taiwanese manufacturers. I would never buy Silver Eagle as I saw a comparison of some of their products to Husky and they were the exact same thing with a markup.

Almost any wrench..... Made In The USA.....will be a decent user.?

If you are on a limited budget and aren't too picky about used tools, you can often find decent bargains on flea-bay, as long as the seller doesn't try to gouge you on shipping?

I've seen decent American-made wrench sets sell for well UNDER $50, including shipping.

Williams USA Supercombos are the way to go IMHO of the ones you list. Second choice Blackhawk.

I have Williams Supercombos in metric and SAE as my main line wrenches. I love mine. That beam is so nice. You may want to look at Wright.
