I have a Blue-Point DMSC683 multi meter. I got it used many many years ago. It's served me well but just recently I had to sort of jerry rig it up to back probe wires and it got me thinking if I can use new leads with it as it would have made my life easier than wrapping wire around the test leads and trying to tape it from moving.

I am on Snap-On's website looking at test leads and a little over whelmed on what would work... The first two pictures are what my multi meter looks like. It has right angle plugs that go into the multi meter and then straight probes that have threads on the end. I found a couple pictures online with what appears to have come with it brand new. Screw on alligator clips, which mine never came with. That's nice but I am looking for more of a complete set. I found the below link on Snap on's site and it appears I can get new test leads, back probes, alligator clips, puncture wire clips...etc. Seems to be a good kit but I wanted to ask before ordering if this looks like it would work with my multi meter?

Test leads I want to purchase:

See 3rd picture below of what they look like.

Not sure what the small little cylinders are in the picture. I circled them with a ?

Thanks for the help.

The plugs that go into the meter are shrouded 4 mm banana plugs. They are the same ones that fit virtually every meter made for the last 10 or 15 years. Replacement cables of varying quality and configurations are available from hundreds of places. Snap On is about the last place I would go to get replacements for something that they are just rebranding and obscenely marking up the price. Companies like Pomona make cables and Meter manufacturers like Fluke sell decent replacements. Much of what is out there is made in China. It is not all bad. The higher end stuff, of any brand, uses silicon rubber for wire insulation because it is more heat resistant. Many are insulated with PVC which holds up pretty well if you don't hit it with a soldering iron. Some have a banana plug at the other end and offer a wide selection of clips and probes that the cables will plug into. Some just have probes on the end. There are alligator clips that the probes will plug into. Some probes are threaded behind the tip and alligator clips screw on. I just bought some Chinese PVC cable sets, for spares on ebay and paid a whopping $.99 a set delivered. Depending on how high a voltage you will be working on, meters and cables are rated as Cat. 3, Cat. 4, etc. Make sure you buy something rated high enough for your needs. This is where reliable brands come inro play. They LIE ON E BAY....LOL!!! Locally there are replacement cables from Klein, Ideal, Sperry and other electrician brands.
