Hi there guys, i seem to be taking on more and more side customers these days and have run into the need for a heavy duty scanner and something i can force a regen with. My snap on dealer had someone just switch jobs and he now has the guys 2 month old bluepoint IQ2 that is still in warranty for another 10 months, says he wants $1400 which isnt bad compared to the $2000 they go for normally. I understand they are made by NEXIQ which makes most of the adaptors you use for a normal laptop when using factory hardware so it seems reputable. Does anyone else have or regularly use an IQ2? I've gotten to use one briefly for reading codes and doing regens, but i'm wondering if you can change parameters like idle shutdown, pto rpm limit or top speed limit? Also are there any applications that this unit has given you trouble with? Thanks guys.

I haven’t used the pocket IQ before but have a bunch of ProLinks and one laptop running the ETechnician software.

My understanding is that the Pocket IQs are scaled down versions of the Prolinks and/or replacements.

The Prolinks are a scan tool. Not much more functionality than that. Good for pulling codes quickly. I do like the fact that it will pull Engine, Tran and ABS codes at the same time.

The ETech software is similar but software based. The LMT module gives some diagnostic capability for the Hinos, Isuzu’s, etc. Engines/vehicles in our fleet represent a small percentage.

I do like the fact that there is no annual renewal for the ETech software or for the ProLink.

One disadvantage of the Prolink is that you have to purchase licenses/application software for each OEM. I’d ask your dealer if that is the case for the Pocket IQ.

Snap On owns Nexiq. It’s possible that the Snap On scanners have more functionality than the Nexiq ones but I haven’t read anywhere that that is the case. Even the description on the Snap On website is similar to the Nexiq.

IIRC the cost of the ETech software was about $1600 CAD. You need a laptop and a USB Link translator so that adds to the cost.

There is no replacement for OEM software but obviously a full suite of OEM software is costly and has annual subscriptions.

For a basic HD scan tool l am thinking about getting either a Mac ET3420-HD or a Bosch HDS 250. Similar functions as the Blue-Point minus the regen feature
