Ok. So I haven't ever seen these in person on the truck but the Snap-On website says that the magnet is supposed to be two solid strips running the entire length of the back of the tray so it should hold weight well. I also know US General has a similar parts tray but it has four smaller magnets and the reviews seem to indicate that the magnetic hold is hit-or-miss. Are these basically the same thing outside of the magnet and the screwdriver holes? Snap-On doesn't list the depth of the tray so I cannot directly compare it outside of HF saying they are a direct comparison. If anyone has the US General one, how strong are the magnets? I need a tray to hold my stoning/lapping/lubrication oils (so not a lot of weight but definitely more than a few pounds) that I can attach to the side of my Kennedy.

I have the HF one and use it to hold spray cans ( brake kleen , blasters , etc ) not impressed with the magnets , have brushed against it barely and it has fallen off. it is on an old shop cart that I don't mind drilling holes in so will add a few bolts.

The back of the bluepoint is a one piece full face magnetic mat .
Better than the generic ones with the magnetic blocks/strips .

I've got a bunch of the Kobalt ones. Judging by what I have put in them (weight wise) & what I have stuck them to they should hold your oil cans or whatever fine (but not sure how big & heavy they are). They aren't meant to hold a lot of weight but I've put like 3 hammers in one before & it never slid down. Mine have 4 magnets ea. a with a rubber stip on the bottom bent lip (helps with friction). The ones with individual magnets seem to be pretty much all the same, they use ceramic magnets. Shorter ones will have less magnets. As long as you have the rubber covers on the magnets they should be fine.

I know I said they seem to all be the same but they're not all made the same (quality). I have the US General 2 spray can holder (6 magnets) which has been fine & good quality. I came across 3 can ones on Amazon, so I bought the cheapest one mainly cause it had no branding on it. Well the paint job sucked & 3 of the 8 magnets fell right off. So I took all the magnets off, easily by hand too, & epoxied them all back on. Been holding fine after that.

I use what Amazon calls magnetic spice racks. They come with hooks and some railings around a solid metal shelf, I’ve drilled holes thru when I wanted to hang picks. . They hold 10 lbs. I typically have about 8lbs every day for the last four months without issue. You can get them in tool box red or other colors from a lot of suppliers. I found their magnets to hold much better then those marketed toward tool boxes. $10-12 a piece typically. You want the ones with a magnetic sheet back, not two or four separate magnets.

I have one from HF, and it has never fallen off… not once. I have two full spray cans and 5, mostly large, screwdrivers. It has really strong magnets.

Thanks guys! I'm probably going to swing by HF before my shift and pick up a tray and give it a go since they supposedly have them in stock. If it doesn't work out, I'll either try the Snappys or swap out the magnets. Thanks again for all the awesome help!
