Thanks to my friend Jorge Robledo who turned me onto the Garage Journal, my disheveled garage is undergoing a make over. It is a standard two car garage that is constantly abused by my wife, kids, and two dogs. This unacceptable treatment to the garage that houses a 534 wheel horse power N54 (RB twin turbo) E92 (coupe) BMW and my wife's CLA 250 ends now.

Like many of you, I have sifted through hundreds of photos and journals and finally dug up the initiative to start mine. Two of the garages featured on this forum that I really inspire to emulate are the 12 Gauge Garage by Jack Olsen and "Red Leaders" 1950's Craftman's Garage. The functionality created in such a small space was done in amazing form.

Here are a few foundational parameters upon which my garage will be resurrected.

1. Nothing will be on the floor.
2. Everything will be behind a door or cover.
3. Every tool will have its own home.
4. Anything that does not belong in the garage will not be in the garage.

My objective is to meet these parameters by March 31, 2014 with the help of members from this forum. I have no construction background or special trade skills. All I have in my back pocket is a good attitude and the ability to work through the night. Please offer comments and suggestions as they will be greatly appreciated.

I started by removing everything and painting. Going with a grey and black color scheme.

The side walls are a light grey (castle rock from Dunn Edwards)

I needed some cabinets. Too expensive to buy so I went ahead and tried to build some by using some ideas off this forum.

The materials consisted of 3/8 plywood ($13 dollars a sheet), 2x3s, and furring strips. It was all assembled with wood screws.

So far I have built two cabinets and my future plan includes bridging it across with a horizontal cabinet and doors.

Tools finally being put somewhere. Definitely needs more organization.

I definitely needed a flag in the garage, this one isn't big enough so I ordered a bigger one.

Those are some solid parameters you have set for your space. Just a matter of executing. Looks like you are off to a fine start. Keep it going!

Thanks! It's been about three weeks since I started. Hopefully by next week those cabinets get painted and doors put them with euro hinges. I was thinking black…any suggestions?

Nice car. Way to go taking back the garage. It should be a temple and a refuge. Your nothing on the floor idea is great and difficult. If the space is small keep it bright. Good luck!

Order a catalog from Grainger.com, they have some good quality hinges. We gotta build you a shed.

Is that a mirror on the ceiling? To prevent you from driving into the stairwell? E30 M3 correct lives in that bay?

OP Nice car and keep up the work. I have kinda quit on my BMW themed garage due to We have outgrown the building. Plus it needs all new electrical service.

You can take a picture of it to your local Home Depot, Sherman Williams or Lowes and they will make custom for you at a reasonable cost.

This is a what my wife started a year ago. My small 26x24 just does not fit the amount of stuff needed in the garage and we have a 12x28 storage unit behind that. We are involved in to many activities.

Once you've uploaded your picture and submitted a post, click on the picture to bring it up full size, then go back and edit the post to paste the full size version in - use the little yellow icon with the mountains on it.

Little update.

Added some doors. 3/4" Pine with concealed self closing hinges. Here is a rockler concealed hinge jig that worked really well. The drawer is made from left over plywood that I drilled and spray painted black.

Any suggestions on the doors? I was thinking of painting them black, staining black, or painting them the BMW M colors.

I vote for staining them black, and put on some thick layers of lacquer.

I'm guessing by those awesome numbers that you're using meth or ethanol fuels?

Looks like some great progress so far! I've been a bum since moving into our house back in June. I need to get my act together and improve the lighting as well as work on storage and decent workbenches.
