Board etiquette question

Which thread to start?

I have a 32 x 48 pole barn that is essentially finished, built in 1999. Due to inspiration of Garage Journal I have been cleaning, organizing and resumed work on my 57 Chevy. Since the garage is pretty much "done" and I don't have many pics of it under construction is it "board legal" to do a car build here. Of course the pole barn gets updated as we go along to suit as needs arise.

Should I do a Pole Barn thread ?
Should I do a car thread ?
OR should I do a combo thread of car and pole barn?

This is GARAGE JOURNAL .... not car-build journal !!

There are already plenty of other forums out there devoted solely to cars, motorcycles, etc. If you want to write a car-build thread, then go to one of those forums where a majority of the members are into car building. Not everyone here on GJ is necessarily interested in building cars.

I have to respectfully disagree with John's statement. The GJ is about our garages and the things we do and keep in them as well.

Myself, I really enjoy seeing builds, fabrication and restorations whether it's a car, truck, tool or building. By having these type of postings here I don't need (nor want) to cruise 101 different social media sites to get my fix of what I find interesting and enjoyable on the web.

BTW your poll needs another choice: Start BOTH threads.

John is grumpy. Post what you want that you are building in your Garage. A lot of guys do. I personally learn from the different project people post on here. For instance I will probably never go to a 57 Chevy Forum to look for something. But by having the numerous build people do in their garages (tractors, bike, boats, camper) it makes it interesting to me. Sorry John to call you grumpy, I have followed your build for a long time and enjoy it also.

Just be cool and post whatever you want. I would never visit a hobby plane building, or Lotus forum but I sure love seeing what people are doing with them around here. So have at it and don't worry....just pick the right area....

I totally agree with wornoutoldman.

I would like to see the combo thread, some car restoring right along with additions you make upgrading the shop and items for the car makeover (specialty hand tools, welders, compressor, etc). I think it’s a great idea.

All this in one thread would be nice in my opinion, but these exact things are my hobby as well, so I’m a little biased.

I’m already anxious to see some pics…Lol.

How about a shot of the ’57, just love the tri-fives! :thumbup:

Question, if I were to do two threads where should I put them.... Or if I do one thread where should it be.

Take a look at nastyzen' thread and e-tecks thread or Jack Olsens thread. IMO they are doing it right, along with others who are just allowing us to follow along with the goings on in their shops. Some shop content but mostly projects. If you have something special in a shop build then do a build thread also. You can see mine below, nothing fancy but its what I have and work in.

More confusing yet is what to do when you score a deal at an auction on what looks like a tool, that is marked "made in Germany", and it looks like a torture device, you don't know what the f#@& it does, but want to share it with GJ, and maybe get some feedback on what it might be.

Do you post it in the "201x garage sale finds" thread? (an auction isn't a garage sale, after all.
Do you post it the "Tools from the old world" thread because it is German made?
Do you post it in the "Post your WTF pictures here" (or "the thread of WTF") threads, since you don't know WTF it is?
Do you post it in the "Show your new tool arrivals" thread (or is that just for "new" tools and not "new to you" tools?
Do you start an all new thread about "Show us your xxxx tools", where xxxx is the brand you found.

It is all so confusing . . . .
