Made a little more progress Saturday. I needed to make progress on the next-door neighbor's side so I fed boards through the fence to mark the cuts. The first 11 boards needed to be cut to match the slope of my 6-foot fence to the rear-neighbor's 5-foot fence.
When my son came to help, he brought his tools and among them was a Bosch 18V circular saw. I had been cutting the fence boards using the Harbor Freight 12" compound miter saw on the opposite side of the yard under the carport canopy. I decided my son's idea was a lot better than mine so I ordered a Milwaukee M12 circular saw. It's blade is only 5-3/8" diameter but that's big enough for cutting two-by lumber. I found a reconditioned saw for $119.00 so I bit the bullet.

It didn't come with a blade or battery so I bought another battery and a Freud Diablo 36-tooth blade. This addition to the tool stable is just what I needed for this project and will be real handy for the shed renovation.
As much as the new saw helped, I couldn't finish the second section so I quit for the day. Those boards go in the very narrow space I left after hacking away at the stump with the chain saw.
To get those boards nailed up I had to dig out the dirt both for the height and for clearance around the pneumatic nail gun.
I started again on Sunday, determined to make more progress. I started by doing all the digging with the umbrella on the other side of the fence. The morning sun meant the shade was just right for digging but working close to the ground meant there was no breeze. By the time I got all the boards installed and cut to fit (the last two are quite short.
I was on a roll so I put up the last three stringers with the bottom one following the stump. I did the neighbor's side first and then tackled my side. I ran out of gas at about 4:00PM and put out the wagon load of stump cuttings, four bags of yard trimmings (thank you Liane), the garbage can and the recycling bins. I fell into the pool and paddled around for a while to cool off. I realized I may have overdone it when I got out of the pool, feeling tremendous sympathy for those beached whales who just give up.
I was focused on the work and neglected to take pictures today so I waited until it cooled off. Turns out it was 93*F most of the day and it has cooled down to 84*F, heading for a low of 82*F.
The fence is functional.
The remaining work on the new fence should be fairly easy. The boards that follow the stump have to be cut at an angle but my little angle finder and speed square make that a no-brainer.
Then it's a little time to repair the fence at the rear of the property. No cutting or fitting but I'll have to get to the other side to nail a couple of fence boards.
I would say done and dusted but this is just the prelude to cleaning up this corner of the yard, including removing concrete rubble and excess soil and then moving plants from who knows where. There is also some kind of meditation garden, fancy palm trees and sod. The sod may not be right away -- unless there's a sale on burnt sod.
