Hey Ya'll I'm BrotherBob and newly retired.

Time to build a shop for my toys and a little parking. This wont be a garage of distinction but a simple build.....poor man has got poor ways!

Foot print 40x56x14 one big door 14x14 opening will be 13'2".
One man door , two windows.

Pole barn all framed in wood, insulated, clad in metal.

Just started the contract to build, all in at 42k. Man says 3 weeks , I bet more like 6!

I'll get a picture up when the pad work starts.

Welcome to the group. I'd suggest that you make a few more posts so that you can meet the minimum, 5, post count needed to post pictures. I find for me that it is easiest to make an album here to hold pictures and then in future they are here to link to again if needed. You can also refer people to your albums if necessary. here is one of my albums from the local tractor show. https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/album.php?albumid=5168

The barn will blot out my neighbors place. So pad is getting built.

I've got a view of a neighbors house that I'd like to blot out with the erection of a large hobby shop. Sadly, the county just can't be convinced to let me to build one in the middle of the road in front of his house! No matter how obscure, imagine any possible piece of junk that you can, and it's probably laying somewhere in his yard.

Congrats on your recent retirement and your new building project. Best wishes for smooth running of both!

I sure hope so, our old house /shop sold so fast I’m having to move out of it! We have a party shack I’ve got full of shop stuff.
Another part of the puzzle my Wife’s 1972 GMC Jimmy 2wd!
Had it tucked into the back of my old shop. I’m a couple of trailer loads from being moved out.
Updated pics of pad work and drive.

So we are close to the initial structure framed. We still have a 40’ carport down one side to do.

Interested in following this build and seeing if you recommend the builder you're using.

I’m a pretty easy going guy. I understand things take time, things change, weather is a factor etc.

It’s difficult to be tight lipped when it’s your money. However these guys were young and super hardworking knowledgeable guys.
Just ran out of daylight.

More rain forecast for the week.

It will get done , in time. I did order the Rustolem epoxy kits for the floor. Most indoor electric is bought. We ordered a four post lift to store cars, should be a couple of weeks out on that.

I’ve asked the foreman to let me pay one of his guys to build a loft and some shelves for cash...we’ll see.

Oh need more dirt ! 60 yards this time.

Making progress is good, they get a half way payment soon.

The RV spot gets a curb to hold the rock in place and prevent erosion.

The 40’ carport has to wait until the pour to get the concrete truck in place.

Plastic down , rebar in , 10” deep where the 4 post lift goes 6” every where else.

Ready to see the pad!IMG_7977.jpg

We washed , etched and put down 4gallons of Rustomleum epoxy.
Looks good but thin and trashy.
Gonna wait until they are done then put down 2 more gallons, flake and then 3 gallons of clear epoxy.
No idea how long the next step takes , communication is not paramount on this project.

Guess I need to pay them and the next step happens.

I love how close you put it to the neighbor lol. Looks like itll be a nice building!

The property line is 6’ away from the building. The ugly house is like 18” to 24” away from the line.

I’d love to buy that place and just clean off the 2.5 acres.

Now if I wanna really be a butthead I’ll mount my compressor right by that window, ha. JK

Metal today...I think this is the six week mark today.

We should have a dry spot tonight?

Finish this week if the rain will stop for a day or two.

Hope you can learn something good or bad from it.
