Body Panel Question

Not sure if this is the right spot for this question but here goes.

I looked at an early 70s muscle car today. Someone hacked a quarter panel from it, but in the process they also mostly demolished a separate piece of sheet metal in the door frame area.

I am trying to post a picture of roughly where the damaged section is, my photo is taken 90 degrees from this panels location. It is the piece of metal which would contain the male part of the door latch assembly.

My question is, what do I call this panel I cannot seem to find anything online and I am fairly positive it is not a part of the quarter panel

Not sure if it would be the same for a car of that era, but if you buy a quarter for a modern car it’s a part of it.

I appreciate the responses so far, I had looked before, and I could not find anything like that for door jamb.

And looking at the actual piece on the car it does appear to be separate from the quarter, and looking online and replacement quarter panels I do not believe it covers the area in question.

It is known as the door jamb. Usually part of the quarter panel but may not be depending on the vehicle and how the quarter panels are designed. Do you have a pic of the actual damaged car?

Just bought the car, it is a 1972 Torino. I haven't had time to look at the links you guys provided, but I will do so and I appreciate all of the help. Just another reason why this website rocks!
