Boiler question...

We just moved into our new digs back in late July. Now we're getting a big storm and I don't have a clue about this, so here goes...
We have a well for water with a 50gal pressure tank, and a steam boiler. If we lose power, can I still run my boiler without the well being on. I have a generator, but not the correct connections for a 240v well. I know it's a 'sealed' system of sorts, but I'm worrying about the pressure and running it out of water.
Thanks, bob

There should be a sight glass on the side of that Boiler. You need to keep the water level above the Minimum boiler water level ( should be a sticker on the boiler or the measurement will be in the manual)

Is there a make up water feed on this boiler? Is it turned on?

Also do you have Low Water Cutoff devices? Check them to make sure they are working properly. If you don't PLEASE ADD THEM!

The last thing you want to do is dry fire that boiler.

It should have a low water cutoff installed and if it does then yes you can run it. Only if you have leaks will your boiler need water.

Sight glass and low cutoff is there. Ok. I'm hoping I don't have to do it, but IF I do, ok.
Trying to figure how to hook up the 15A 240v well circuit without a transfer switch...

You can shut the main off at the panel then backfeed through a 2p breaker fed by your generator, not a big deal.

Steam does use a little water, but with a low cutoff switch it is safe to run. Anyway, you can probably go for several days without needing any makeup water.

Your other problem you will be needing to supply power to the boiler circuit, stat, condensate pump and burner.
