Anyone care to lead me down a path of what to check

Past few times, I've picked up the smell. Hot Water Tank when running give off a burning dust smell.
I've checked the perimeter of the tank. All the holes are nice and clean and not dusty.
Pulled the cover off where the pilot area is. Just the usual -minutia dust- that is sitting on the foam in that area but that's it.

Give any areas a good blow with the compressor hose and just vac'ed the floors. Did not see any visible dust.
However, whenever the boiler is running, I can smell the exhaust enough to pick up that it smells like burning dust.
Never did have this smell previously until as a wild guess, 3 weeks ago or so.
Now when the wifey or the kiddos' are taking a shower, I know the boiler will be running and I do the smell check, and indeed it's there, each and every time I've checked.

Flame blue while burning? Plastic inserts around water pipes deformed? If they are could be a flue problem where flue gas isn't going up dumps out heat deforms the plastic Might only happens at certain times Run your hands around tank for a hot spot.

Agree with checking the draft/vent/flue.
Doubt if it's a nest at this time of year, but sometimes rime ice can build up and restrict air flow when the somewhat cooled off moist exhaust gases meet freezing air. Don't see it often, but I have seen it.
