Ok so I'm starting on 3100 sqft of slab on grade aka monoslab with 2 rooms upstairs with radiant floor heat in SW Montana 1200 will be a nice garage. Anyways we just got done building a 10,000ft shop & love the heck out of the in floor heat with the boiler it's amazing how little propane we go through.

So then out of the blue my good friend & plumber ask me "since you have ground water at 6ft and tons of it why don't we install a open loop Geo system for you?" He swears by them.

Hmmm so now I'm not sure I figure I could use as little as 500gal of propane a year with a boiler doing everything right but I have no idea how much power this pump is going to pull?? I already have a variable speed well pump in place & dumping the water is easy as we have a old well on the property not far from my new well that I can use. So with that said anyone have a system like this looking for ideas.

I do not have a system like this. If I had the set up you are talking about I would definitely put in an open system. The people that I know that have them are very happy with them. Closed loop seems to be a different story from the people I know that have those.

Check your water quality if you try open loop. Buildup can be costly. I have closed loop Geo and it's ok.

We sent the water in for a test & it shows good so I'm good there as far as deposits building on the coils.
