I have recetly benn looking at Lista, Lyon etc. type drawer cabinets, but 2 grand is alot to drop on one for home use. I was buying some greade 8 bolts at lowes a little while ago, and their cabinets are pretty cool, and would have to be a cheaper alternative to a lista. Just need like 2 or 3 of them....anyone work there or know where they get um, or who makes them. I know all the bolts are Hilman brand, but not sure that they make cabinets. Thanks for any help.

The fastener drawers at Lowes are actually owned and stocked by an outside vendor. I had a long discussion with the manager of my local Lowes about the fastener situation there, and he was quite taken aback by the state it was in once I called it to his attention.

You could ask the manager at your store when the vendor will be in, and you could then ask the vendor for info.

Thats what I figured, Lowes is head quartered down the road from me, so maybe the vendors is somewhat local. I do know a Lowes manager at another store, maybe she could find out for me.

A lot of times in retail, vendors provide their own displays if they are beyond the normal shelving.

This is intersting to me. I never knew that, I always assumed they owned the racks and everything in the stores, learn something new everyday.

I'm thinking of making a bolt bin out of 1/2" plywood one of these days. Slot it like cardboard is for liquor box spacers and put a 3/4" back on it that's rabbited to keep it from racking. On the front, cut a 2x4 in half at a 45 then rabbit 1/2" slots in it and rabbit a notch on the bottom and attach it across the front for your slope to get stuff out easily.

Of course then I'll find one for $50 on Craigslist just around the corner....

A local guy that I know bought out the whole wall of bins and drawers from an ACE hardware store that was closing in the next town over from me. I couldnt believe it when I went into his garage. This guy bought everything. Including the little drawers with the knobs and springs and weird little nuts and washers. He got all this for $1000. What a bargain !!!!! Grade 8 , SS, brass screws. All the stuff in the bins and all the stock that the guy had in storage. This guy will never use all this in his lifetime. His great grandkids will still have the stuff when they retire ! But it was a screaming deal ! Sorry about hijacking the post.

A $1000 bucks sounds like a lot at one time but if I never had to go to the store for a single bolt again. It would be way worth it. Probably just in gas alone.

This guy also has a deal with a mini storage. He gives the guy $300 for the contents of the garages when people dont pay. He gets alot of junk but every now and then he hits big. The day he showed me the fasteners he also showed me a blue Mac tool box that was the biggest combo that Ive ever seen. If I remember right it had over 30+ drawers. It was huge ! It was in one of the garages buried behind a living room set under a moving quilt. And no, it didnt have any tools in it ! I just cant believe somebody could walk away from something like that. Unless the guy that left it there was in jail or dead ! Some guys are just lucky.

the only bins i have seen at lowe's are akro bins and the drawer type.

since you are talking about the grade 8 stuff i assume you are talking about akro bins. try fastenal, that's where we source ours from.
