Bolt Bin up off of Floor

Hey guys and gals,

I have a steel bolt bin that I would like to mount up off of the floor in my pole shed. At this time I would prefer to not have it sit on something like a bench that is in contact with the floor.

I immediatly thought about getting some heavy duty brackets and making a stout shelf, then to sit the bolt bin on the shelf and leave it at that, but it will have a decent sized inventory of hardware in it, so Im thinking that might end up being too heavy for a shelf.

Ideas? Suggestions?

What's the dimensions on the bin?
Weight potential makes me think first of at least; legs...

I had pondered making my own brackets out of some heavy angle then lag bolting them into the posts with heavy lag bolts, might do that yet.

Its one of those 72 bin, bins. What are they, 3 feet ish tall, 3 feet wide, 1 foot deep? (roughly)

Bill you are from dewinton? I have a kinda odd question I would like to ask ya via PM if ya dont mind! (Ill wait to see if you mind before I ask it haha)

Would throwing it on casters make sense? Then you can move it around out of the way if it's in the wrong bit of floor space.

My wall is a stick built 2''x4'' .I used 6''x6'' x 3/8'' angle for a shelf for mine. Lag screwed as a shelf angle and then screwed the bin to the 2x4 uprights .

Run some unistrut between your poles, or fasten something like a couple of stout 2x8 between, then depending on the size of the bolt bin, lag it to the 2x's. If you have studs between your post, just find a couple of studs and lag the bolt bin to those.

BTW....Welcome to garage Journal!!! Post up some pics of what you are dealing with. We do tend to like pics on here.:beer:

I have a gravel floor in the pole shed right now, and it will be that way for a few years (maybe even as long as I own this place, plans were to try and sell it and move elsewhere eventually) so thats why I dont want it on the floor.

The wall isnt finished right now, so its just the 6x6 posts with tin sheeting on the outside.

I was hoping to mount it in a way I could eventually insulate behind it, if I ever needed to. (just in case we decide to sticka round this place for longer then expected, and I end up insulating and throwing a concrete floor down)

As for pics, not much to see, a couple of 6x6's, some tin, and a bolt bin that needs to mount between em haha. Im out in my other shop right now on the shop computer, and if i get a chance before dark Ill snap a few pics.

I am getting a few ideas though, I like the idea of throwing a couple of 2x8's up, sorta like a house floor joist, maybe with some angled supports underneath.

My bolt bin has I think 8 drawers and has a stand sized to hold them about 18" off the ground. It wouldn't be hard to fab something like that up in angle iron and make it a square frame on the bottom to have a lot of surface area contact with the gravel to make it stable. I would greatly recommend putting a couple of angle straps at the top rear attached to the wall if you can since these tend to be a bit tipsy if someone loads the drawers too heavily near the top.

I made a stand for my bolt bin that lifted it about 2 ft. off the floor.

I built a stand out of 1.5x1.5 angle to get it off the floor and store additional boxes under it. I've got a couple photos in my garage build thread on here somewhere.
Cheers!
