I have a thick rubber horse stall mat under mine 60 gal. Used to walk to one side but now stays put. If worried about a seismic event, why not strap it to the wall like with a HW tank?

My bench grinder on a stand walked like crazy. Put a horse mat under it too but it still won't stay put. Pfffft.

I am going to get a new stationary, vertical air compressor. Is it necessary for me to bolt down air compressor to the floor?

What about rubber feet?

What does the manufacturers instructions say?

I haven't bought an air compressor yet...but will do that very soon.

If the manufacturer instruction say to bolt it down, I wouldn't do that. I'd go with the rubber feet (or maybe on the pallet). It's because I just don't want to make any holes on the concrete floor.

When I purchased my Quincy 5hp/60 gallon dual stage air compressor 25+ years ago from my local dealer they recommended just using anti-vibration pads under each of the feet and not bolting it down. That is how my home shop compressor has been ever since and it never moved even a fraction of an inch.

All five of our compressors at work are bolted down but that is company policy, even though I don't necessarily agree that it is necessary. They make a lot of noise and the vibration can be felt anytime in the general area of the compressors unlike my home shop compressor.

I will be using new anti-vibration feet in the new shop but it won't be bolted down.

Mine weighs 611 lbs...***** got bolted down. Most of the weight lives above the tank and it IS most certainly top heavy.

If you're just buying your average $400-1000 consumer air compressor, you're probably OK leaving it on the pallet or laying on rubber.

This pos only weighs 208 lbs:
