is there a reasonable kit to buy for home use?
ive been eyeballing the 48pc craftsman thread restorer kit, but i have a lot of chasers already. dont want to overspend or buy a relabel i could have gotten cheaper.

don't know about a kit, but I bought mine at the flea market. people usually have no idea what they are. I paid $1 each for mine

I bought my thread files (metric/sae) after a quick web search. They are a life saver when you've got a fitting or bolt that you can't get a die to or don't have a die for that particular application.

the cman set is only slightly more expensive than a set of Nicholson files on Amazon, or at least that was the case a year or so ago when I needed some.

The craftsman thread cleaning kit is great.
The thread files work surprisingly well, and work better than a die in some situations.

Got mine from KBC tools Decent pricing and no complaints with the file.
Bought from local location so I have no idea how they are for shipping tho.

Cman kit is on sale for 39 right now. Seems lie a decent deal seeing the snap on is 100+ and its the same kit

im almost certain that craftsman kits the same kit i bought off ebay for buttons -the lay out the label and the contents all look the same.

mines was Far east origins and doesnt have the "made in usa" on the label but certainly saved my **** a number of times - but not used often enough to warrent a snap on set up.

I only wanted thread files also but the files alone were like 15 quid and the whole kit was 25.

Saved me buying a 140 quid power steering line when the connector got damaged so paid for its self.
