Bon-E Con Socket...made in Japan

I was out pawn shopping today and ran across a 1/2 drive Bon-E-Con socket. I've seen many before, and have a few. The interesting thing about this particular socket was that it was stamped "Japan". This socket had to have been from the 1940's or 1950's.

I thought all the Bonney stuff was USA made. Anybody else run across any foreign made Bonney or Bon-E-Con tools?

Bon-e-con at the end was made in india, I never saw any Bonney branded tools that were not US made, just the economy line, and I never bought any of those.

I would love to see a picture of this socket.....hint, hint...... you did buy it right? AFAIK, real Bonney stuff was USA made. They could have done some off shore stuff near the end. I doubt it was from the 50's and I *know* it wasn't from the 40's. (Think history... embargo, the war, the destruction of Japan.....)

Sorry, I did not buy the socket, but in hindsight, I wish I had.

The socket looked like all the other USA made Bon-E-Con sockets I've seen, except for the word "Japan".

You may be right about it being later than 40-50's. When did Bonney close their doors?

A lot of the Bon-E-Con items were imports. They are an example of a pretty honest seller. They didn't name it Just-As-Good-As-Real-Bonney-But-Cheaper, and they didn't just quietly go import one item at a time. They kept the Bonney line truer than most other companies. They went out sometime in the early 90's, I think between 92 and 94. Someone else will chime in shortly.

I saw some wrenches and sockets but made in Korea as I was told. They are cheaper and of lower quality and finish then the real BONNY.

I thought Bonney stopped making tools in 1996. I'll have to look it up I guess.

Interesting. I'd never seen a Bon-E-Con that was non-US made. Learn something new here every day!
