Bondhus Ball Driver Question

Hey guys,

I want to buy some good allen wrenches, i have heard good things about bondhus, but whats your recommendation on the finish?

Proguard or Brightguard?

I used the black ones for years and never had a complaint. My work was 90% SHCS's so always had a set in my pocket.

I use the black ones, and they have held up well. The tips are really tough.

I actually have the Goldguard drivers and in terms of durability and finish, they still look brand new.

I have the black version and I've been really happy with them. They're a huge improvement over the other brands I've used.

Thanks Guys, I was kinda leaning towards the black version since they are a couple dollars cheaper. I was wondering if it was worth the extra money for the bright guard, but it looks like I will be happy either way. I am having a hard time deciding.

The gold guard is out since they dont make the larger kit in gold.

I have Metric in GoldGuard and SAE in BrightGuard. Mine are regular hex ends though.

Williams makes a ball end hex key set as well. Williams is a Snap-On Industrial brand and this set is made in the USA. You can get them for about $15 delivered to your door from MRO Center. (Amazon might carry these, too.)

It is to me. All my metrics are briteguard, easy identification. And $9 isn't going to break my bank. My SAEs are black finish. I think Bondhus may be a snap-on OEM. You can also save a couple bucks and go all goldguard if you wish:

I like how you mentioned having different finishes for easy identification, and then recommended me an identical finish set. Can you comment on any benefits of the finish outside of identification?

I was offering options and cost savings I personally chose different finishes, actually I bought the gold set I sent you, but everything else is brite/black. I have short, stubbys, hex, and ball. Its all personal preference, like polished vs satin wrenches. I like polished for easy cleanup and nice feel but trade off that it may be slick if oily.

I like the bright finished they are much easier to find if you drop them under the hood of a car where most things are black.

I have the goldguard Bondhus metric set and really like it. I use them on machinery at work and they are so much easier to see in low light areas than the black Allen brand wrenches I had before. The Bondhus' have held up a lot better than the Allen ones too. I'm pretty sure Eklind is the Snap-on OEM. I have a Snap-on SAE set and was missing the 3/16 wrench out of the set, ordered an open stock Eklind wrench from HJE to replace it, and the Eklind was a perfect match right down to the markings.

If exposed to water for extended periods of time they may begin to surface rust. 4 of my maintenance guys use them daily and they have held up extremely well. These guys wail on these things with channel locks twisting the short ends and all sorts of other abuse and they only have slight wear.

Not to mention the SAE/Metric identification is extremely clear.

bondhus are great

i've used the **** out of the regular black ones, no issues at all. also have the ball hex 1/4 inserts for my wera ratcheting driver and never had a single one break or strip a head out.

also have the gold gorilla ones and they are just as good if not better than the regular. buy bondhus all day. i'd say imho that the goldguard are made better, fit into the heads of socketcaps better, and are overall a bit tougher when it comes to bending the wrenches from abuse.

Gold for at work since they bought them, black for home/ garage, although I have a few black sets floating around my desk at work. use them quite a bit at both and never have had a problem with either. I generally will lose 1 or 2 and get a new set before I wear out or break one. also have a few sets of Eklinds floating around which have always proved to be just as good to me

I highly doubt Williams/Snappy makes them. Eklind, Bondhus, HoloKrome or even Allen probably makes the hex keys for them.
