I picked up an old large American Scale Co. vise that carries a number of battle scars. Has anyone used bondo to fill these scars prior to primer and paint? Did the bondo hold up under normal use?

No way would bondo hold up. The jb weld is the best idea. Most people would just live with it I think... You'll add more dings in the future

Its a tool to be used, live with the dings and take pride putting a couple more in while repairing whatever it is you enjoy working on.

Come on, that's what they do to Chinese Vise's. Why not also put a Made in China sticker on it. :lol_hitti

Old American vise should be cleaned and painted no bondo. I like to take a grinder if its really beat up first then finish with a roloc disc, then paint.

Silly idea. It is a vise. You put bondo on a car, not something that's job is to be abused and pounded on.

Ha ha! I was just going to chime in that the vise that my Dad bought from Harbor Freight some 20 years ago had a skim coat of bondo to hide the ugly casting.

Skip the bondo, paint it, then use and abuse.

Why even paint? "Polish" it with a rotary steel brush and put some sort of treatment on it to inhibit rust and keep the natural finish.

Oh well...couldn't leave this one alone.

I'd give it a five minute "resto" with a wire brush on an angle grinder and then slather on the dumbest, gooey'ist, cheapest paint you got and then proceed to beat the snot out of it....just sayin,I think thats why they were made?BW
