Happy Father's Day!

I figured I'll share my build on my suburban homestead with everyone. Hopefully I inspire others and gain insight from others that have done similar projects. I've gained sooooo much knowledge over the years reading forums and figured I'd share this project with others. Feel free to comment, give suggestions, etc.

It's a bit embarrassing to show the starting condition of the garage but I figure it will add dramatic effect. LOL!

Background- 3 car garage (Tandem Style). Houses 3 cars and a utility trailer (It will when I'm done with it).

I guess from the pictures it does look pretty small and considering all the **** everywhere it really looks small! LOL! Garage is 670 SqFt.

Thanks for the welcome!

Cleared the upper shelves off the walls this weekend and filled up my utility trailer for a dump run. Can't believe how muuch stuff I donated/sold/junked in the last week. Feels good though!

Starting to move stuff out to the shed I build in order to have a clean working garage.

Patching holes this evening after work and going to start to tape off the garage for paint. Bought some samples over the weekend to see what colors I liked. Going with a grey theme but have decided that the walls will stay mostly white. The light bright color I think helps keep the space light and open feeling. My floor will be mostly black and gray and will arrive this Wednesday from Swisstrax. I plan to pull some gray color into accents in the space and will probably start building soffit around part of the garage and installing LED downlights.

Pics after the weekend of cleaning. Cheers all.

Oh here is the flooring that will be coming this week. Bottoms cut off but you get the idea. :)

Patching holes, moving electrical conduit, etc. in preparation for painting this week. Hoping to have it painted by Friday with the base color. Picked my color pallet today and plan to use the light light gray as the main color to keep things light. Will use the other grays to add contrast here and there.

Behr color swatches.

Oh yes, these are the projects I enjoy the most. Being a suburban warrior myself, I can relate to your project. Looks like you are off to a terrific start. I am a big fan of different tones of grey, too. I'll be checking in regularly on your progress, so keep the info coming! Good luck!

Rick! I got such a kick that you posted a comment on my thread! I've been looking for a garage to find inspiration from and yours was it. I hope you don't mind but I figure why reinvent the wheel! I always planned to use gray as my color palette and I used my computer skills to guess your colors and so I have the 3 I chose. I also went as far to print photos of your garage and had them laminated for reference purposes. You might have a twin garage in the golden state of California. Hope you don't mind .

Flooring came last week. Woot!

Well in some ways I am happy the garage is painted now but as you can see taping off a garage for spraying is a real PITA!!!! This damn thing took me 30 minutes to get ready!

A few shots of the painting aftermath. Now to do the exposed concrete, accent colors and then lay the floor! Soon I'm hoping!

Most of the painting is finally done. Working on putting up the dark grey chair railing and will work on getting the baseboard done as well. Possibly start laying the flooring tonight or early this week. I've been OnCall at work and it's been busy so things aren't moving as fast as I'd like on the garage.

Tiles are starting to go in. Spent most of the day finishing the trim work and painting. Floor is pretty much in. I just have to work on the custom cuts.

another construction technique that's completly different in Canada compared to US (just like stucco that we never have).

You spray paint indoors? We always paint with rollers and brushes, no need to tape anything.

Behr colors are :

Darkest- Pencil Point
Medium Grey- Dark Pewter
Light Grey/White- Painters White

I actually ended up buying about 8 test samples and painting them on wall sections and boards. It's interesting to see the difference in colors on a paint swatch vs actual large samples on different walls and under different lights. Some of the greys looked really grey to me and others fooled me when I actually tried them on different walls and under different lights. I also asked the paint person what the tints were in each color in order to get as grey as possible. The lightest color I used has a fair amount of red in it but when I compared it to another very light color that was more in the true grey spectrum it just appeared too grey and made the space look too dingy for my tastes. My garage is pretty narrow and I really didn't want to close the space in too much with dark colors. Luckily my ceilings are 9.5' so that helps. I plan to add a LOT more lighting to the space. Now it's time to accessorize the hell out of the space! Thanks for the kind responses! :)

It's been awhile since I posted anything. I've had some massive inside projects I've been working on and have been doing very little in the garage. I was trying to avoid doing any woodworking in the garage since the focus was to make it a "car" garage but after my wife and I discussed all the woodworking I do it really wasn't feasible to not have a section of the garage be a space for my wood shop. So I've begun converting the back tandem area into a wood working space. I've acquired a dust collection system and an air filtration unit. I've also found a product I really like from Goff's Enterprises. It will allow me to seal the majority of the space off from the rest of the garage for my wood shop. I'm hopeful it does a good job sealing the dust in. It's a very well built product and is more of an industrial grade product which I love.

I've also bought a curb ramp recently and I'm happy to report it's super nice for preventing the front end of the electric Fiat from scraping the curb. There is an air splitter on the front of the car that would always scrap the curb and the wife was tired of having to be so careful leaving the driveway. It will also be useful when my new car arrives from Germany in a few months. I'm going to need it!

Here's a glimpse of the upstairs projects I've been slammed with. New hardwood floors everywhere, new doors and finished carpentry and the list goes on... Did I mention painting! ARGH!!!!!!

Another project I forgot to mention was the shed I had to complete to hold all my extra stuff I didn't want in my clean garage. Just finished priming the inside

Was debating about handles for my iKea cabinets and trying to figure out how to dress them up a bit. Still working on some ideas but in the meantime I figured these dual purpose "handles" would be perfect!

Spent the weekend getting the shed in order. Now that it is decent I can concentrate on getting the wood shop together in the main garage as well as improving the lighting situation.

Before the weekend started on the shed.

Found a place on the ceiling to use some old indoor/outdoor speakers. Will get a receiver for them soon.

Fantastic garage. On your dust curtain, you may want to hang a secondary piece of plastic or cloth down from the top to cover the gap at the track. Beilieve me, dust WILL make it through there.

We just left our nieces house a little while ago. In the subdivision they live in, the driveway approach is the same as your typical curb. One of these would be ideal, but Good god they want a chunk of change just for shipping. It would cost them almost $500 for a set with the extra piece. I will give them the link to it though and see if they are interested. I know that if I had their driveway, I would have one.

One question about it........have you thought about lagging it down to the curb to prevent someone from walking off with it? I'd be pissed if I spent that kind of money, only to find someone stole it. Great idea for the recycling of tires though. 50 lbs. per section and 1 old tire used per foot. If the prices were a tad cheaper, I could see them selling thousands upon thousands of them. Nice idea!!!!

For the ones that can't read the website on the curb filler it is http://www.bridjit.com/

Actually I have. I'm not sure I will though, I worry about the city making an issue of it but I might very well do it anyway. It's 200 pounds once I add the additional 4 foot section which I plan to do and I think it's unlikely someone wil steal it in the neighborhood I live in. I guess you never know but I'm a pretty trusting person.

Looks awesome! Great idea for the fishing rods, maybe do the same with mine if you don't mind haha.

I'd hope that's the purpose of this thread. By all means use any idea I have. I'm sure I'll use countless ideas from what I find on this forum to improve and gain inspiration for my garage and shed.
