Bonney Tools Ratchet

I was browsing ebay last night and found this Bonney Tools ratchet. It looks pretty nice, and I think it's from WWII era. I was trying to bid on it, but I don't know how high I'm willing to go. Anyone know anything about the company or the ratchet itself? It looks pretty cool, and has a unique shape.

I think you're probably right about it being from around ww2.

Yeah, I was the initial bidder which would have left it at like $10 shipped. I haven't bid since it went up to like $15 haha. Still, it does have a nice figure as far as ratchets go

Looks like 1940's. I believe they made those up until the late 1940's. I have 2 of that style. One is a little older and has "Zenel" on it and the other is only marked Bonney.
Heavy duty ratchet but has a very clunky action. Would hate to use it as an everyday ratchet compared to newer designs.
On ebay $10 is about average and I would say absolute top would be $20 shipped.

It's an interesting little ratchet, but nothing particularly special, is "clunky" compared to anything quasi-modern - ones like that tend to show up from time to time - not an uncommon ratchet.

Seems like ratchet bidding has been climbing lately - haven't gotten a decent deal on one in a little while. Let the others burn thru their disposable income until they lose interest, prices will drop back down. That's how it's worked for me over the years.

Tell me about it. I have never bought anything from Ebay so I decided to look around and see what interesting ratchets I can find for cheap. I bid on a few things, but after getting outbid I gave up. Most stuff is just too expensive for my taste.

I scored what I felt were decent shipped deals on some items in the last couple weeks.

I won't lie. Your posts are what put me over the edge and have turned me into a ratchet junkie. But, I am sure there are more than enough to go around, and I am sure I am no threat to your goals!!

Don't worry, my prices are set based on what I pay. Most times I make a couple bucks on a sale and that is it.

Well..... I'm cheap, and I don't wanna be exact, 'cause I may lose out on more , but you'll rarely see me spending the bucks others might - I did blow @ $30 on a Craftsman stainless ratchet a few months ago, and @ $25 on a quick release Snappy, but those are exceptions. Not dissing those who part with more $$$ - value is, after all, in the eye (and need) of the buyer. Shipping included, I'll go a few bucks more than I would at a flea market, only because I'm not burning gas - that and the flea market pickings are right slim around here (at least they are on the days I manage to go).

I still reserve the option to question the "sanity" of some fleabay bidders though.

I agree with you. I chose to spend $**.** on a tool, including shipping. If it sells for over the number, I didn't want it. I spent slightly more on this simply because it is a missing piece of a set I am collecting.

What kills me about eBay sellers is the rip off on shipping. I have sold a few things via eBay and only charge actual shipping costs. Most sellers do not. Not even close.

I wish we had a flea market around here

If I can pick up a cool, vintage, usable older ratchet for $15-16 shipped, that's a no-brainer for me.

i will pay 10-20 shipped for nice plomb stuff,less for lower quality.10-15 for proto .i am single without many bills,so i have been buying a lot of pebble stuff,and paying more than normally,just because i have the pebble bug.

Bull, it's hard to make a blanket statement about what ratchets are worth to me. It all depends on if it's a style I don't currently have, the condition of the ratchet, the coolness factor of it, etc.

Personally, I don't buy ratchets off Ebay because I don't have the time to search and keep up with it, and because once you factor in the shipping costs it generally cost more than I am prepared to pay. With that said there are apparently deals to be had if you are patient.

I think you are doing fine to pay around $15 shipped for a cool old ratchet that you like. For a ratchet that you are buying with the intention of using it I think paying a little more is ok too.
