Bonus Room insulation

I have a bonus room (apartment) I am going to finish over my garage. I need to know how to insulate the floor (2X12's on 16" centers, 3/4" T&G) to keep the heat/cool in the apt and the moisture out.

Also, need to insulate the roof (2X8 on 16" center) and keep my ventilation flowing to the peak where I have gable vents on each end.

I would suggest the foil faced foam sheeting for the ceiling. there are websites that sell it the correct width for your rafters and then get the tape they sell and seal the saems. It comes on a roll: like the bubble pack stuff but the foam version is rated better. This insulation reflects the heat back to the roof. I used it in a utility shed and then covered it with vinyl faced masonite sheeting. You'll probably want some cool paneling or T&G cedar? That is the first thing I would do to make using your card room bearable. The rest? Just insulate the heck out of it all and seal it and you'll be glad you did.

Nice looking building.

Not sure of your location but they make a spray type insulation now that may work for you. it just sprays into the opening sealing everything it goes over.

Thanks for the replies. After doing some research it is hard to make up my mind. I am in South Georgia so I am more worried about the heat on the roof.

You could use R21 faced in the upstairs, just be sure to install those raft-r-mate baffles to keep the airflow from the soffit to the ridge.
In the downstairs you could put R30 or greater in the cavities. unfaced would be cheaper and easier to install.
