Hi, I was wondering if anyone had any good suggestion on books on auto repair and learning the electrical components of vehicles. Please don't respond with pick up a chilton or haynes manual. Thanks much appreciated
Google basic schematic symbols and print out a copy of what you find. http://library.thinkquest.org/10784/circuit_symbols.html Is a good place to start. Amazon sells numerous books and basic electronics and basic electronic troubleshooting. Or you can check eBay for old military training manuals on troubleshooting basic electronics. Hope that help.
I don't know what the latest edition is, mine is probably 8 yrs old, but this is a good book. I don't know if schools use it but it's basically a school text book
Go on youtube and type in Load pro or Dan Sullivan. Lots of videos on car/ Semi truck electrical troubleshooting. Also teaching auto technicians basic electricity.
While I was in tech school we used almost nothing but those "Tomorrows Technician" Natef certified text books for everything from electrical to drivetrains and I feel they were pretty good. They always had a good balance of tech speak to pictures and real world examples. They will give you an excellent foundation to build off of for specific brands or scenarios.
Honestly, your best bet is to try to see if you can get the training module books for the specific manufacturer you are interested in. That book for Subaru is what got me dedicated to electrical diagnosis.
