Books Or Guides With Good Information

I have been looking at my local book store for any reading material that would be valuable for all different aspects of building a garage. I found a framing book that is good but more geared towards homes with windows, closets, hallways, doors ect... I wanted to see if anyone can suggest a good book or guide that I could pick up in a bookstore or on Amazon.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It really depends on how much you want to get into the details. For instance, you have the Minnesota building codes. For the concrete work, there are specialist organizations that publish their own material. Or do you want a more general book that covers how to build a garage in a single book?

Anything for house framing. Garage/house - same deal. Just leave out the interior walls and windows if you don't want any. Span tables from any of the major lumber suppliers are on the web if you choose to frame rafters/joists vs buying pre-made trusses. As above, local building codes or the permit web site of a local larger city may have specification drawings and specs for foundations and garages.

How much of book do you need I have an extensive library of construction books and manuals over the years everything from pole building, log, standard platform construction/ballon construction. to garages out buildings and barns. Some are simple just ideas really others are more specific with details

I have a First edition Carpentry by Leonard Koel that I got when I was went in for union carpenter apprentice almost 40 years and is still a standard for many trade schools now in its 6th Edition. Awesomely comprehensive book on every aspect of construction from foundation to finish span charts, nailing patterns, etc. Its in its 6th editon now and can be found on Amazon

Not exactly a single book and not exactly related specifically to garages, but I've gotten a ton of ideas from JLC "Journal of Light Construction" and Fine Homebuilding, both periodical magazines.

I've purchased several books over the years. The ones that cover "all" aspects seem to give an overview. The "big picture" and a few basic details.
Specific books on masonry, electrical, plumbing are more detailed but skip the big picture.

I've looked at a few framing books at the big box stores but haven't found one that would cover a variety of situations. (Most were specific to decks or small sheds).
