A good friend of mine asked me to build a set of bookshelf speakers for him. Over a couple glasses of single malt scotch and a couple of nice cigars I decided to use Baltic birch, a nice honey pecan stain, and vinyl wrapped 1/2" MDF side inserts. Here are some build pics.
I started out by making some templates of the shape I chose for the cabinets.
I then used this new template to make each piece of Baltic birch. I basically just duplicated this template over and over again using a flush trim bit on my router table. Baltic birch is not the same as the birch plywood you find at Home Depot. Acoustically, Baltic birch is about the best wood to use in a speaker cabinet. Each speaker cabinet is built using 12 pieces of stacked birch as well as the side inserts.
