After reading “Living WITHOUT Tools” thread I started thinking how sad it is that people have no clue how to use tools and the differences in age of the people that it applies to.
Let’s hear stories of Boomers and full on projects or tool related activities not just tinkering and collecting tools.
My mother will be 63 in October and she is in the middle of a solo remodel of her house. Dad wrecked his body working in the Steel industry for 40 years so he isn’t a lot of help as he can hardly walk or stand. Mom can do almost all of it framing, lay 8” block, plumbing, drywall, roofing, siding, windows, doors, cabinets, She can cut a window or door into a cinder block wall then frame and pour a new header. She was telling me when we were camping in late June she learned how to wire a 3-way switch. 20 years ago I did all of her wiring now she does 120v electrical. She won’t do cars or gas pipe though refuses to learn says that’s Man work! I live 200 miles away and always try to do what I can when I visit, my brother-in-law goes by at least once a week to see if she needs help or motivation. She learned from her mom who thought it was taking too long to get projects done while my grandpa was at work. Grandma from her mid 40’s up until her late 60’s about a year before cancer got her would do demo, hang drywall (including tape, mud and sand), paint, wall paper more stuff than I probably remember. I remember my grandpa telling me about coming home from work one day and the drywall from 2 bedrooms and the living room was all torn out because she wanted him to change the room sizes and knew he wouldn’t just hang new drywall without moving the walls for her.
lets hear about people out there still getting things done on their own.
