Booster jumper cable question

Hi guys I wasn't sure where to ask this question..

I'm comparing 2 jumper cables. Both are 8 gauge, 12 ft, copper clad aluminum.

One is 160 amps and the other is 220 amps. Why is there a difference?

Chinese conversion factor? Possibly different number of strands in each wire providing differing resistance?

They're cheap cables, I'm sure their specs are very similar. I wouldn't depend on any rating provided on the package.

I'm sure the ratings are on the optimistic side as well.

Wire size is important with jumper cables,but not as important as the clamps on the ends of those cables.A cheap,flimsy connection just won't get the job done.

I use ones like this 25 ft, 800 amp rating. They are long enough to reach the front of most vehicles from the rear and heavy enough to get the job done. I've had mine for about 20 years.

Neither are worth considering...only buy 4 gauge or larger.

Get solid copper.

I still carry jumper cables in my vehicles and have another set in the garage. Most are ones I have made up from copper welding cable and heavy copper clamps. I too would suggest 4ga or better especially if going to 20 ft.

Have you considered the rechargeable micro batteries. Since owning one of these I have not resorted to jumpers. Also satisfying to see expressions when the small battery starts their big car!

May be cheaper today than a set of good copper cables.

Get solid copper.

Stranded copper would be much easier to use.
