E-mail today announcing that Boral is going to stop making the bevel siding product. Saying they can't maintain production quality at the level required to make a profit. Have used a lot of the flat Boral products -- only some of the siding. I'm not using the bevel siding in my current project due to the desire for small show line and pre-painted product -- the Boral was the best if you wanted the traditional look w/large shadow line. The wide board product is great for facia and freeze boards etc .. very stable ... painted up like glass .. ground contact rated.

Odd that they can't figure out how to make it profitable ... maybe too much waste in production?

Disheartening news to say the least. I'm not sure how to parse this from the manufacturer.
“Boral has found that it is unable to manufacture the bevel lines to both meet that demand and ensure quality that is consistent with the rest of the product line,” Tomasulo said. “Over the past six months, the Boral operations team has been working toward a sustainable solution, but has been unable to create a consistent process to increase bevel yield in manufacturing. This is strictly a yield issue, not a performance issue. Products already in the field are not impacted and remain covered under the current TruExterior warranty.”
I'm guessing, "there aren't enough raw materials available (or available cheaply) to make both bevel siding and our higher margin products."

This reminds me of the demise of original Original Pine-Sol® which the manufacturer has made available again, but only in limited quantities and only from a single source because,
Pine oil supplies are limited and have become more expensive and will continue to be an issue around producing original pine scent Pine-Sol. We are not able to manufacture the original scent in the quantities required to be available in stores nationwide.
