Visiting the family farm today and my aunt gave me this. I read a little bit about it and it sounds like it will be one of those tools I didn't know I needed but really love. Though I do very little sheet metal work...

Anyone have one or know anything about it? My aunt said she bought t for my grandfather who passed in 1989. No date on the machine (or his mark - JHG) but it is obviously old as there is no barcode on the box and the plug isn't polarized.

It's a 16 gauge shear. I've got the 1500C version. Does yours have a letter after the 1500?

Nice shear. Yeah, it's the original 1500. You'd be amazed at what that can do to a sheet of steel. Owning that, I doubt you'll ever again pick up a pair of tin snips to make a cut longer than 1/2".

I believe the 1500B (a friend of mine's got one) has a hand guard added, but is pretty much the same thing. The 1500C has the hand guard plus 4-sided cutters for longer cutter life and twice the motor speed for smoother cutting, and a slightly modified design that can do tighter radii in one direction (I forget which).
