Bosch 1587AVS Jigsaw Disassembly

Hi,

I'm trying to fix up an old Bosch 1587AVS jigsaw I got off EBay and I need some advice before I tear something up. The original problem was that it wouldn't hold a blade, that was an easy fix finding a replacement part. I figured while the gearcase is already open, I'm going to clean the saw up and put some new grease in, it is 21 years old after all. But I can't get the armature off, not sure if I just need to tap harder or I'm missing something.

sealed bearings.
clean / regrease the gear assembly housing, put it back together

bearing #7 is probably holding it in . a few taps on the armature with a center punch may knock it out

#8 is a retaining ring. My concern is I wanted to make sure that wasn't holding things together, but it looks like that is to hold the bearing in.

I think the armature is holding onto the inner race of the bearing
a gentle tap should let it out. the retainer then could be removed to pull out the bearing
... I think....

or if you can get to the retainer while the armature is in place that might so it too

The retainer is blocked by the fan is the only problem. This is my first time taking a Bosch tool apart, which is why I'm a little more cautious. I think I'm going to use a brass punch so I can get some good solid hits without damaging the spline gear.

I got the armature out safe and sound. Decided to make a yolk/jig to support the housing so I wouldn't bend the aluminum.

Anybody have any thoughts on what grease would be best? I was just going to go ahead and use Milwaukee Type L grease, which is just a general purpose gear grease for their sawzalls. It has the same consistency and color as the original grease.

I'd be happy to take it off your hands if you'd like to sell it. Or I could fix it for you, but it wouldn't be cost effective with shipping cost.

thanks . the control board is all sealed with glue & epoxy, doubt it can be repaired. ordered new board off erplacementparts

Didn't realize the new saws had a control board. I've found ereplacement to be expensive, I've found the best prices on EBay normally.

Didn't want to start a new thread just to ask this, but for those of you that have this saw I'm hoping you can help me.

I bought this 1587AVS jigsaw off EBay a while back knowing that it would need work done to get it in working condition. One of those parts that was needed was the aluminum base plate, which always bends or breaks when this saw is dropped because of its weight.

When I got my saw in, I got to looking at the base plate closer and it looks like it is bent intentionally because it looks too perfect if it was dropped.

Did some of these jigsaws have an offset base plate? A new replacement is perfectly square though so maybe it's just my immagination. Any thoughts?

That's a good question. I can't see why they wouldn't want it flat.

I'll try to remember to get some more pictures tomorrow. Normally when they get dropped the aluminum cracks or the ears shear off, this has no evidence of that. Just wanted a second opinion before I drop $30.

I suspect from use it has bent from putting forward pressure on the saw
I have a ryobi that that happened too. .
with the oscillating function on it can hammers quite a bit without realizing it

Yea, I suppose it's possible but there is a steel plate that goes under the aluminum base so it would be difficult to do.
