Bosch dishwasher dead - thoughts?

My house came with a "fancy" Bosch dishwasher. It no longer powers up. No lights showing at all.

I tried all the normal "reset" procedures. Reset breaker, push reset button.
Nothing...

I pulled the unit from under the counter, and have confirmed that I am getting 120V to the unit.

Google doesn't tell me much except to make sure that the latch is closed all the way. It is, although I guess some contact could be broken inside. Doesn't seem like it though.

My gut tells me this is some main control board or power supply inside the unit.

This thing is 20 years old. Normally I would say it's time to replace it, but when we bought the house a little over three years ago it came with one of those home warranty deals. Had problems with this unit during that 1st year, and they ended up replacing the main pump which I know was an expensive part.

Anything else I should check? Any other ideas?

Other notes... I am in Texas, and we have been having this major winter weather deal. There have been rolling blackouts for three days now. Potentially had one when unit was running, I don't know for sure. Maybe that killed it? It was working before this winter **** show hit us.

Thanks.

It does seem like your power problems may have caused this issue

If you find the wiring diagram it may call out a fuse.

otherwise Meile makes an excellent unit.
IMO the american made junk is.....well junk unfortunately- all built down to a price point.

"Any way we can make it cheaper??" is the mantra....

I generally try to stay with main line brands for household appliances. KitchenAid, Whirlpool, LG, etc. I avoid Samsung for reasons related to their customer service policies, but that's a different story for a different day.

I tend to agree with you - with all your recent power problems, the dishwasher problems are likely related to that. Hopefully it's a fuse, but more likely it fried a component on a control board. If you're so inclined, you can start disassembing things. Maybe you'll find some black marks on the PCB, you can desolder that component, and try to match it, whether it's a diode, relay, capacitor, etc. Maybe you'll get lucky.

Does it not have any lights? Mine (Bosch) all have some light on the control. If you have no light I would look for the first power board. It may only have one ...

I have had this occur with appliances during power interruptions ...

Typically e-bay is your friend for old electrical boards ....

I second your gut's opinion. After 20 years the power supply would be a prime suspect.

We had a similar scenario here last Fall. There were some power interruptions one night due to thunderstorms. The next morning the fridge was dead. A day of troubleshooting led to one bad electrolytic capacitor in the switching power supply on the main board.

Maybe it died of fright during the storm. :)

If you can find any kind of service info on the web, that might show you where the test points are for the power supply, so you could check for 5 volts or 12 volts or whatever it uses to run the main control board.

Or you could just do a visual inspection and look for any electrolytic capacitors with bulging tops. That is a sure sign of problems, and is relatively common for parts of that vintage. Search the web for "capacitor plague" to get the full story.

Good luck.
