Are they ready to use out of the box or do you pay for a subscription to use them? I've never used one but have access to a fairly discounted one, but the deal is only a deal if its good to go out of the box. If I have to pay for a subscription after purchase then I'm not going to invest in it. I checked Bosch's website but I can't find much actual usage info on it, just the specs of what it can/can't flash, control, etc.

Most high level scanners today are part cloud based and require a subscription that might be 10-15% of the cost of the scanner.

Has anyone ever flashed a tcm with this? I swapped trans on a 2019 Tahoe and this is the first truck I've had to flash the tcm on after a swap. Is it easy? Any helpful tips to offer?

Yes and no. yes they are ready to use out of the box if you're talking about reading codes, viewing data, commanding some items on & off, traditional scan tool functions. No, they're not ready out of the box if you're talking about reflashing modules. Reflashing would require a subscription from the particular OEM that you're working on. The module update is written by the manufacturer and they don't give them out for free. PTEN publishes an annual scan tool comparison guide that lists various scan tools and their capabilities.
Lastly, most or all scan tools require updates. Many scan tools will come with free updates for the first two years. After that, it could be a few hundred or more to update annually.

Welp, tried to reprogram the new trans on my '19 Tahoe and could not get the effing newly replaced VCI to connect to my PC with Tech2Connect. I can find it in the menu of devices, but it keeps saying it can't connect. The VCI is known working with my Bosch Evolve tablet so I know its not the problem. Any GM techs here that know why the hell it won't connect with Tech2Connect?

Thanks for info. I bought the Evolve. The subscription card on it is about 700.00-800.00 for a year. I'm going to go ahead and get the subscription for it, but damn, that's way more than I figured it was.
