I haven't received a letter yet, I guess as long as it still comes though. But if i knew it would take 5 months I might not have bought the impactor.

I called within the last two weeks. I was about 3 days from the 8 week max, listed on the rebate thing. I was in que, but they still had around 10,000 in line and said it had been WAY more then anticipated. I received the letter yesterday.

On a side note, I would be happy if they decided to send me the PS30 instead. (new one with chuck)

I will wait, as this isn't meant for my main drill, just a easily portable one.

Just got the same letter. You guys must be ahead of me in their list! At least they haven't forgotten me....

BUT, I notice that Bosch has discontinued the whole 10.8V line, they're now at 12V. Part of the attraction of the free PS20 was that I could run it with the extra 10.8V battery from my PS40-2, since the free PS20 doesn't come with a battery. If they don't have any more PS20s and have to substitute something else, I wonder what happens with the batteries? Do I end up with a 12V tool and no battery to run it?

They're the exact same, there's no difference between the 10.8v and 12v.

The 10.8V line is being re-badged to 12V Max as a marketing gimmick to keep up with the companies making 12V tools. The 10.8 tools actually take a 12V charge but once under load, they drop down to 10.8. The 12V max tools do the same thing. The batteries would be interchangeable across the line.

Amazing. And from a reputable company like Bosch too!

How about this -- let's call them 120V tools instead. That's what the charger plugs into, right? :bounce:

Thanks much for the info, I'll go back to waiting for my PS20.

In fairness, the Milwaukee batteries do the same thing. They just didn't start by marketing them as 10.8V and then switch to 12V to keep up with the other guys.

Who knows, 120V cordless tools may be possible some day with changing battery technology. Bosch and Dewalt are up to 36V now.

Actually, Bosch started the fair way, then all the other companies rated theirs the sleazy way to make Bosch look bad, even though there was no difference. Bosch then changed it to 12v MAX (note the max, they admit to it, and explain it on the packaging) to match the others.

Here's an email I had about it a while ago:

Dear Jared,

Thank you for writing. 12V Max is the new category reference for our Ultra Compact tools (10.8v tools). When the battery is fully charged, the battery is at its maximum voltage (12V). After some period of time, the battery loses some of its voltage and exhibits a steady state or nominal voltage (10.8v), until close to the end of its capacity. The tools and batteries are the same. The only difference is the new PS20 has a magnetic chuck so you will not have to use a power groove bit like the previous versions.

The reason we changed to advertising it as the 12V is to address confusion in the marketplace. We believe it is our role to better educate the consumer and prevent competition from muddying the water by overstating the power and performance of these categories of tool or implying that their maximum voltage is their nominal voltage. That is why we have clearly added "MAX" to the logo.

If you have further questions please write back.

Just to get an idea of where we stand, when did you guys send in the rebate form and reciept?I procrastinated and didn't send mine in until the next to last week in July.I haven't heard anything from Bosch yet.Is there a way to contact Bosch to find out how much longer?
I realy like the PS-40. I've been it using more than either of my full size battery drills for assembly/disassembly of panelboards and other electrical work-the size and weight make it ideal for most of what I do with it.I just wish I could limit the torque-but thats what the PS-20 is for, right?

I sent mine in fairly early. My father sent two in, one before and one after me. He received both of his. I waited till close to the 8 week mark, and called the 800 number listed on the rebate form (did you copy your stuff you mailed?) They are backordered, as they received WAY more then expected. I and several others have received letters telling us to expect it sometime before November 1st. When I talked to them, they still has around 10,000 unfulfilled.

I'm in the same boat. Sent the rebate in the middle of July. Called twice and received the letter. Bosch is processing this rebate through the Dremel / RotoZip service center (Wisconsin I think) instead of a normal Bosch distribution. The person I talked to thinks this is adding to the delay caused by so many responses. I was assured that everyone that sent in a rebate form before the expiration date will receive the tool - it will just take time.

My PS-20 came in today. It was the new 12V Max version. Just need to find an extra battery for it now.

Can't remember. It was on the kitchen counter when I got home from work. I'll check the box tonight.

I'd wait at least a week or so. Plenty of people have no plans to keep them. I haven't decided yet myself. I need another cordless drill thing like a hole in the head, but it does use the same battery, so don't know.

Im number 7000 or something, they told me that they are shipping out about 1000 per week, and their shipments usually go out on Thursdays.

I got the letter in the mail saying mine will arrive around Nov 2. So if they were up to about 6000 at the beginning of this week, 6000-7000 would go out around today. its very possible we'll see them on or around the 2nd (or 3rd presuming they wont ship for Sunday delivery)
