I was on Ebay looking for a bare tool PS41 and noticed the PS42 (brushless) is available.

Read some reviews and watched a YouTube video and it doesn't seem like there is a huge performance gain over the PS41. Was wondering if anyone out there has both and has any comments?

I have an aging Hitachi 18V driver. One battery has already died and I can only assume the other that is the same age won't last much longer.

The Bosch driver will only be a backup until I figure out what 18V tool system I want to invest in next. Then it will continue to be a backup or the tool I reach for when the compact size and/or light weight is helpful.

I have a few other Bosch 12V tools plus their LED worklight that I plan on keeping even if I branch into another brand of 18V tools.

I think brushless drills are supposed to have an increased lifespan if I'm not mistaken, which would be one advantage...

I dont have either of those, But I went to Bosch 18v a few years ago and they've been VERY good tools.

That said, unless you're using it everyday as a work tool I'd skip the brushless. Especially since this will only be a backup, the extra cost wouldn't be worth it IMO.

You can probably find some smoking deals on the 41 now that the 42 has been released...

Good luck

This is a good point. I found a couple of retailers who had it advertised but listed but as out of stock. Think I'll wait until the supply of 42's is good and see what happens to the price of the 41's.

I've got a 41 and it'll work all day. When the 22 and 42 came out I wanted them right away, but realized there's really no reason. If I broke my 21 and 41 today, I'd buy them again tomorrow unless the brushless were almost the same price.

I have a PS41 and a PS42. I think the trigger switch in the 41 is going, sometimes I pull the trigger and no worky worky, sometimes it's fine. I've been using the 42 more recently. With the 4.0 batteries it lasts forever, but so does the 41. The 42 doesn't seem to get as hot as the 41 does under heavy use but I haven't had an opportunity to rag on it for a few hours straight like I have with the 41.

The 42 has more buttons and stuff and being brushless probably has a bit more computery stuff going on inside. Don't know what that will mean in the long run but I'd guess that stuff will give out at some point. I don't notice much of a power difference between them. My PS41 is over five years old now and aside from wanting to check out the newer model I don't really see a reason to spend more on the PS42 so far.
