Holy ****, those are nice, I'm a big fan of organizing boxes, more so of ones that are the same size and stackable like these. All we need now is a reasonable price.

Why only 3, I'd like about 40.
I want to start off with three. =) Better?

Stuart, nice post. I saw the system in person it's pretty sweet, very easy to work with, 3 handle positions on every case and built like a tank. Unfortunately the price tag is a little high between $50-70+.

There was talk about the tools coming in these cases which would really be awesome and would go a long way to getting the system out there.

$50-$70 is a bit steep, but that's approximately what Festool's basic systainers cost. Three handle positions are definitely desirable.

At those prices they might not be available on smaller single tools, but it would nice to see these cases included with combo tool kits.

BTW, welcome to GJ!

Most electric power tool companies here use Festool/Tanos "Systainer" ,some standard cases, Bosch is the only one who uses the Sortimo L-Boxx afaik.
Also a lot of other companies use the systainer for hand tools etc.

The good thing about the Systainer is that several companies use this system so you can stack different tools from different brands together

or just sell the L-Boxx and put the Bosch tools into a Systainer :)

Holy ****, I've NEVER seen those!

No fair, no fair, no fair!

We do have Pelican cases and Otterboxes, but they cost a lot more than a Systainer does.

I'm hoping that the L-Boxx goes mainstream and that other manufacturers and power tool companies duke it out over here over market share.

I just did a blog post on the LBoxx system and linked this tread because of all Monte's nice pictures from the other side.

http://www.coptool.com/blog/2010/06/bosch_sortimo_join_forces_on_l.html

Also some new info on pricing current tools:

PS31-2AL - 12V Drill/Driver - Boxx Size 1 - Target $159
PS50-2BL - 12V Multi-X (larger kit) - Boxx Size 2 - Target $199
New Jig Saw - Boxx Size 2 - Target $199

Looks very close to current prices!!!!

Those prices do look very optimistic, thanks for the update!

Great, I've accumulated a ton of Festool over the last year, now they went and upgraded their boxes... now I need to buy new ones. Have a lot of systainer stuff from Knipex and a little metabo, bosch is really late to the game with these look alikes that are probably from China...

Monte, I'm disappointed because you didn't post pictures of your own tools stored in Systainers. ;)
Regarding the comparison of the popularity of Systainers and L-Boxxes, I'd like to add that L-Boxxes are relatively new to the market while Festool offers Systainers since 1993.
Most of my power tools are stored in Systainers and I really like this "box".

Have a nice Sunday,

Chreese

doesn't anyone know how to build a box, anymore?

truly a WTF thread

I agree 100%.

I wonder why a company like Plano doesn't make something like this?

as an aside...do any of these boxes come in something like a 2" thickness? It would be cool to have that for handtool storage. Double bonus points for *not* saying Festool, as that'll double the price.

As noted elsewhere, Systainers aren't really about just a box. It's buying into a system of storage. Personally, I love them and always have more of them on my wish-list. Unlike the blowmolded cases included with a tool, you can stack them and repurpose them. Instead of a useless lump of plastic that gets tossed when the latches break or the tool gets put in a drawer or dies, you have a box that can be kept and used for something else (and the latches can be replaced, except for the part that's part of the box itself). At the moment I use Systainers and Sortainers for hardware and consumables. Compared to a new Vidmar or Lista cabinet, they're modular (easier to move or take with you) and buy-as-you-need. I have plans to replace most of my 20+ blowmolded power tool cases with Systainers. I wish they were less expensive and easier to get in many colors here in the U.S., but I like them a lot. My oldest ones are still in great shape. There are a few more sizes and colors available from Tanos in the U.S. than what Festool has available. In Europe, there are many colors available (as pictured by Monte).

Since I'm not an on-the-go contractor, mine don't move all that often en masse. But when I do need to put hardware and/or tools in one of my vehicles (say to help a friend or family on a project), I love the fact that I can latch them together in various configurations instead of having a bunch of different shaped and sized blowmolded cases to contend with. I like the L-BOXX too, but limited sizes and availability make them much less useful to me. I have several Bosch tools, but also several other brands.

Man I've heard some nice things about festool... but to own a complete lineup of powertools in systainers from them would seriously cost a small fortune...I'm talking probably the price of a brand new ford truck... my solution is to avoid reading about them and not looking at pics so I don't do anything "foolish" on impulse ;)

Whatever you do NEVER go to Woodcraft...they have the full line up and even let you test them...

The more I think about cases like this, the more I like it. None of my power tools have the same case, and it would be great to have the same that would stack and lock neatly. Unfortunately, the small sizes look to be at least $26 a case for Festool mini systainer and even more for the LBoxx.

My Dewalt jigsaw came in a very nice case, I will have to look at it closer.

But where are the newer boxes made in?

...in Bavaria :)

If you know what or where that is :D :D ;) ;)

I think the video explains why you "need" these boxes :)
