Bostitch 15-Gauge Nailer BTFP72156, Help needed

Picked one of these up used. Plugged it in and it gave a firing sound but no nail. Opened the top "jam cover" to inspect and it looks like the firing pin is extended all the way out, not allowing nails to feed. I can't push it back in with out a lot of force, and don't want to force it before I diagnose more.

Is there a trick to these or did I get a stinker? Will take apart tonight and try to see if any o-rings or things are broken inside. But thought I would ask here first.

The firing pin should move up and down with out much force. I think you have a nail under the firing pin which is putting pressure on it. Also make sure it's disconnected and you have the spring pressure off the feeding system. If all's good then pull the head and look down to make sure nothing is jamming it. Nail guns are very simple tools to work on.

If not a nail could be a bad o ring on the piston.

Thanks for the advice gentlemen.

Pulled the back cap off and found the problem immediately. The driver pin snapped at the back plunger. The top plunger part of the driver was sideways in the cylinder, some scarring and bits of metal but still in good condition. Replacement parts are like $65, which is more than what I paid for it...

Will be getting a refund, shame, since I got such a good deal on it...

was reasonable and nice to have the assurance

I just looked up the parts on ereplacementparts.com,

pistion/driver assy (9R203772)$27.34,

cylinder (9R188809) $6.24

Might be worth it?

Oh yeah thats for the "FN" style.

"DA" style cylinder is $12 something, same price on the driver.

It's the FN style. and it's not just the driver and cylinder. Basically all the plastic pieces including the bumper that the driver comes into contact with, including the o-rings, all have nicks in them.

When I priced it the rebuild kit plus the driver was the best price, and by that time you can get a "nice used" one for cheaper.

On top of that, it seems like the guy that used this thing dumped a quart of oil down it everyday on a daily basis. The thing was COVERED in oil and dirt. The shipping box it came in was saturated in oil from the thing. If I remember correctly these are supposed to be oil-less. There where also some other things broken on the outside...

I know what you mean, my friend just gave me a 16 porter cable and parts to repair is $50. I already have 18, 15 and a framer. So I really don't want to spend the money on this 16 but I hate having tools that don't work! I'm still undecided on fixing it.

Stick to bostitch, hitatchi for cheap parts, porter cable is super expensive.
