Bostitch Mechanics Tools for the Shade Tree? Yes!

Just bought a 105 piece set of Bostitch Mechanics Tools for $70.00 shipped. The 105 piece set has 3/8 and 1/2 inch drive tools. The 174 piece set has the 1/4 drive tools, but I wanted to keep the 1/4 drive stuff seperate from the bigger stuff because I don't like lugging big tool boxes when a little one will do.

Just recently had most of my tools to get ripped, so I had to get some more. For the money, and I did get dizzy shopping around at all the tool sets, I think I got the most out of my money. Yes I know it's made in China, but all I need is something to work on my cars, lawn mowers, and whatever else, and this set is putting out a lot of bang for the buck. Add a good set of deep well 1/2 drive impacts, and I will be golden.

The case is heavy duty with hinged metal latches. The hinged metal latches was definitely a strong selling point to me. I am sure there are a lot of us that have plastic tool boxes with cheap plastic broken latches.

Once the case is shut, and I am ready to lug it around, the tools stay put period. I flipped it upside down and shook the whole box, and every thing stayed in place. I love it. It's the first box I have ever owned that did that. Bostitch does include a thin rubber mat to help keep the tools in their slots. The sockets are on the tight side in their respective slots, but I would rather have it that way instead of a big mess every time I open it up.

The 10 pieces that fit the T-handle are a set of torx T10 through T50. The T-handle is magnetic, so that's how it holds the bits. Bostitch claims a lot of torque can be applied via the handle, so we shall see about that.

I took some pictures. http://s936.photobucket.com/user/snippits75/slideshow/Bostitch_105

The one tool I have from them, I really like them. The 3/8 locking extent ions. The have a push button release vs. A collar like duralast or kobalt.

I didn't know they were making ratchets and sockets now, they look good for the money. I do have one of their tape measures and a claw hammer. The tape is fine, but I hate the hammer because it sounds like a tuning fork every time I hit a nail with it.

Was browsing Walmart a week ago and saw those sets. Don't remember price, but they had some ratcheting wrenches as well. They looked like decent tools.

Made by stanley, same basic design stanley and earlier husky stuff (say 97-2013) used. I have had the same set of stanley sockets for 15 years and have only worn out the ratchets a few times (but I abuse them since they are cheap tools). For the money, well worth it.

I recently went to Walmart and saw some Bostitch brand hand tools there. I mainly looked over their full polished combination wrenches.

I wonder how these compare to the Dewalt hand tools at Sears? Without knowing I am assuming they're the same.

Bostich seems to be the "Good Stuff" at walmart. Walmart also has Bostich cordless tools. The look like porter cable but are black and yellow.

Black & Decker, Porter Cable, Dewalt, and Bostich are all Stanely brands.

The Bostitch power tools at Wal-Mart are the same as the Canadian (also European?) Stanley Fat Max power tools.

These and the Dewalt mechanic tools at Sears look similar. I think these sets offer the most useful tools without the "fluff". Had a buddy recently need to buy some tools and I went to sears with him. He ended up with a Dewalt set because it offered the most useable pieces for the money. They are WAY nicer than the China made craftsman stuff for close to the same and sometimes less.

No fluff was the main reason I chose this set.
