Bostitch wrenches: Is this Proto design?

I went to Menards and found this two items on the clearance: Pin punch set ($4.99) and 10pc long pattern wrench set ($9.50). I don't have SAE wrenches, so at this price it's a no brainer.

The wrenches are made in China. The quality is good, way better than those from Harbor Freight. The packaging says "anti-slip design". I know both Bostitch and Proto are Stanley brands. Is this feature the same as Proto's?

Bostitch and Dewalt looks to be them same, my Dewalt wrenches are Taiwan though, 10 bucks for 10 wrenches is a good deal

Short answer is yes, that it's a PRC copy of a polished PROTO wrench with an antislip open end. I think the Taiwan made Dewalt set is much nicer but, for $10 for a set, I think you did pretty damn good.

As Fedwrench said, the Bostitch combos are Chicom and the quality level is not as good as the Taiwan made Dewalts. For $10 you did very well though. Both brands have what Proto calls "Anti Slip Design" (ASD) in at least some of the open ends.

In the Bostitch line, the following are standouts as they are Taiwan made, apparently by Hi Five as are the Dewalt reversible ratcheting combos, and very good to excellent quality:

I don't know about the other Bostitch tools, though if Taiwan made, I would expect well of them.

As Fedwrench and retDAC said, yes, a Proto copy. I have the DeWalt combos, and your Bostitch clones look more "lobster claw-ish" than the DeWalts! The package looks the same as the DeWalts too! Anyway, for 10 bucks, you made out like a bandit!!!

No "lobster claws", that was due to the view angle. I hold up the wrench head in front of a higher resolution picture of a DeWalt, by adjusting the distance, I was able to match the edges exactly. I attached a better picture below, so you can try by yourself.


Taiwan and China is only about 100 miles separated by sea. I wouldn't be surprised that DeWalt is actually unfinished Bostitch that final finished in Taiwan, with "Made in Taiwan" slapped on.

The retail price of Bostitch was not far from that of DeWalt. It's cheaper and on clearance
probably because nobody buys them, discontinued.

Bostitch may be a cheaper alternative to DeWalt at the moment. Actually, you can get one on Amazon for $16:

Pretty good quality. I'd say better than Teckton. I might get a metric set.
