Bought 35 T5 Light Fixtures Yesterday

I'll be doing lighting in two shops in the near future, did the lighting requirement program I found here to do a calculation.

I found these advertised on CL and bought them to supplement the 12 enclosed 4 lamp T5 HO fixtures I bought about a month ago.

These are all made by Lithonia Lighting and new in the box.

I bought 6 IBZ 454L . That's all he had left of the 4 lamp fixtures.

I also bought 29 IBZ 654L fixtures. These have 6 lamps.

The L means they have lamps included. All Phillips 54W 4100 .

I also got a LED lamp. Not familiar with them, we'll see how it works.

He still has a bunch of IBZ 654L and LED fixtures available.

The seller has a bunch of lighting/electrical stuff for sale. I worked out a package deal with a discount. I'm in on this stuff at less than 1/2 price of the best price I could find anyplace on the computer. AND, no sales tax.

They sound like they were stolen from a jobsite.

Those are pretty common lights, when we order too many for some reason, we would save them and then bill them out on a future job for the full price. Not sell them for half on craigslist, especially on something we know we'll use again that's as common as those.

I thought someone would chime in here with that stolen from someplace line. Yeah I know, I initially thought the same thing, but after seeing what he has for inventory, it's too diversified to be stolen.

He told me he did a big buyout of a few electric stores (same name) primarily for the wire. Said he made his $dough$ on that and just trying to cash out for what he figures he has left.

I left with a receipt for my purchase with his name, PH# and address on it.

If the stuff was "HOT" I doubt that would happen, along with posting ads on CL. His wife, grand children were there and helped me load, IN BROAD DAYLIGHT!!!! Imagine that.

There's something I've found in life. Don't always come up with negative thoughts when entering in a pretty good deal. Sometimes there's a perfectly good reason why an item might be priced far below retail/wholesale.

I feel very comfortable with this, as I did with my previous light fixture purchase. A month ago I bought 12 fixtures for a little more than the retail price of what one was worth. Again there was an explanation for the cheap price. Father and young son there to do the deal at his nice house in a high class sub-division. These sealed T5's were new and an over buy for a food service processing plant he was a manager at. No place to store them at the plant. He takes them home and they take up a bunch of space in his 2-car attached garage. Advertised on CL and the seller had several promises of buying them. All dead-ends. I'm a real buyer, he's pissed 'cause he got jerked around and was tired of the CL BS. I show up, cash in hand and make a killer deal. Did he pocket the $dough$, I don't know and don't care. I left happy.

I've always found the absolute worst time to purchase something is when you NEED it. If you plan in advance for future needs, you can normally come up with some pretty good deals. Example: worst time to buy a car, when the current one croaked, there's no back-up and ya' need transportation NOW. That's when the seller has ya' by the short hairs.

Man I've been watching Atlantl CL close! where is this guy. I just made a trip all the way to Buford for ONE 150A box w/breakers for $75. Need more breakers and wire and lights. (If I don't just go with CFL's). You've got a PM

That LED is going to be an experiment. Might try it over a work bench.

Used the lighting requirements web site. According to the calculations, I'd have to use an equal # of these LEDs to do almost the same as the same number of 6 lamp T5 fixtures.

Right now, it's not cost feasible.

This specification sheet tells us that if the light fixture is a IBZ 654L with nothing following the L that it is a "narrow distribution <5% uplight" "no shielding" (as in lens or wireguard) "multi-volt 120v-277v" "standard ballast configuration" and has a ballast "Cool Running Plus T5 electronic, 1.0 BF, programmed, rapid start".

I knew about the narrow distribution. I ran these fixtures through the lighting requirement program and it told me how many I needed taking into consideration the fixture is ND. Then I added a few more for extras.

I just checked and he had 14 left. YOU got a killer deal on these. Congrats on a great find. I know what they cost as I just ordered 9 of them from Platt electric that were $20 each more than the ones you got (654's) and don't have any lamps, and I have to wait three weeks to get the WD versions. Good things take time they say.
