Bought a compressor off Craig's list

New here...just picked up a compressor wondering your opinion. It's a Belaire 318vl 80gal 7.5hp. Guy said it works but electric motor needs rebuilding...says it will run for awhile sparks shoot out of motor then trips breaker. This sound common? Baldor motor rebuildable? Picked it up for $250

I got a motor sitting in my shop for that exact compressor. The pump crapped out and the shop replace the whole compressor.

Wow, that's a nice deal for $250, assuming the pump is good. Solid score

Pull the motor apart, almost sounds like the rotor is contacting the stator. Blown bearing? The motors aren't too complicated. If the pump is good I'd say you have a very good starting point at a nice compressor. Take the belt off and see how easily the motor turns over by hand. Unplugged of course.
