Picked this up from craigslist today. I needed one for the shop anyway and I thought buying an older one would make for a nice resto project with my son.
Dont really know squat about it, but it works! Paid $100
Has 2 small holes on either side that looks like missing I'd tags possibly. Cant tell if motor is original. The cord and switch dont look original.

You stole that Walker Turner drill press! It is missing the spindle cover and doesn’t have an original Driver motor, but it came with the production style table in beautiful condition and even has an original cast iron pulley cover. That is sweet!

You can usually find those spindle covers on Ebay. Not cheap, but they're there. I've got one waiting to be restored, and it's missing the cover too.

Look in the "vintage tool discussion" forum, you will probably find it's siblings.

Not gonna lie, I'd freshen up everything but the paint. I love the look of well used tools.

Protege, that will look pretty cool after the refurb. I would paint it the stock colour. But a hammered paint would also be visually appealing. What are your plans for it, how far are you taking it? Cool project to do with your son.
Good luck keep us posted.

It has 3 pulleys on the spindle but only one on the motor. :dunno:

I think he was referring to the optional low speed attachment that adds another triple pulley between the motor and spindle pulleys. This allows it to be geared down to lower speeds. It is a very desirable option. On mine, I used a VFD with 3/4hp motor to give infinite variable speed.

You also have the optional pulley cover that is a nice touch. They are hard to find. A few years ago a fellow on the OWWM site made a run of aluminum reproduction covers. I got one and added it mine.

Nice! You stumbled on a great machine.

It took me over a year to find an old american drill press on Craigslist. Did you just stumble across yours or have you been looking?

Kind of stumbled. I was doing a search for "press" which would cover drill press, arbor oress, hydraulic press, press brake, etc. Just trying to fill out the shop equipment. This is the only thing I found worth looking at. It was posted <3 hours and the guy already had 4 or 5 people intrested. So I said I would be there at 8:00 a.m. even though I knew I didn't have a vehicle available that it would fit in. Gave him the cash, borrowed a truck from somebody at work, and went and picked it up at lunch time , lol
