Our work - for decades had a contract with an outlet that carried both Wright and SK. They always did the job, they may not have been as "pretty" as others, but they were tough and strong enough, and did the job well enough for what we did out on the road.

It depends on which vintage Snap on wrenches we are talking about. The really old stuff from before flank drive was introduced definitely had a very narrow beam.

That was why I DIDN'T like SO line wrenches years ago. I liked some of their stuff, but my line wrenches were either raised panel Craftsman or MAC (or even the occasional Matco) as they fit my hand - the SO's skinny handles bit too hard. They're WAY better now, but back "in the day", I flipping hated them.

Has Wright fixed the issue with all of their boxed ends being bent at the same angle? I have a set of the first generation satin finished wrightgrips and the boxed ends range from being almost zero offset to like 10 degrees. I don't think any of them are at 15 degrees.

I think the wrightgrips have nice beams and are a great little wrench overall. Wright could easily sell a zillion long pattern sets if they would only make them.

If you want a longer wrench, you could opt for Proto or several other brands.
However, i would recommend getting a set of extra long zero offset boxed end wrenches for those times when you need extended reach or umph.

The standard length wrights, tekton, KDs, and others are great for probably 90-95% of what most techs do. I've never expected one wrench set to be able to do everything :wtf:

I have full sets of Wright Grip 2.0 as my primary wrenches. Sometimes the open ends are too aggressive, so I purchased sets of Wiha combination wrenches recently. My only complaint with the Wright Grip 2.0 is the fit on the fastener. The Taiwan made Wiha combination wrenches fit the fastener significantly tighter than the Wright. The Wright and the Craftaman RP they replaced fit the fasteners about the same. I was hoping the American made premium wrenches would have a tighter fit.

I do like my sets of Wright wrenches. They are a great value in quality tools. The two things that knock them out of the top spot as my favorite are the fact that they’re shorter then I’m used to (long time Snap on user) and they’re quality control lacks consistency. Of the 3 Wright wrench sets I have bought overtime they all seem to have some noticeable variations in box end offset, box end ring thickness, finish quality, chrome peel (a few bad enough to warranty). I still rock them anyway and I’m happy with them but they are far from flawless. They are however very tough and affordable.

The old one looks too thin (as if it would crack with a slight amount of torqued applied), but your "new" ones look like missed a step in the surface grinding area; or they came from the same factory of the lobster claw C-man wrenches.

Just curious, did you show Wright these pictures? What was their response? All is normal, nothing wrong with them.....

Yes I did contact Wright. The full story is I used the old 17-19mm for oil changes on my Honda Civic. This spring I bought a new Corolla hatchback and purchased a new 12-14mm for oil changes on the new car. When I received the new 12-14mm I thought no way is this thing right and it slipped passed quality control. I e-mailed wright with photos of the new 12-14mm next to my old 17-19mm. They replied this was their "new improved" design and sent me a new 17-19mm to replace my old one so that is why I now have 2 of them.

Wright should make new XL combos an inch or less shorter than Snap-on long wrenches, just to give everyone something new to ***** about.

Off to check my Wright combos for inconsistent offsets- that's potentially a legitimate (and also frequently- mentioned) problem.

ETA that new offset box end design is just silly.

Anyone know what the differences are between Wright Grip and Wright Grip 2.0 combo wrenches?
