JSharp, I have never seen one quite like yours. Interesting...the two drawers across for the top three rows.

The guy who sold me the box said he had already sold the top box. I was thinking it was a Waterloo too, but he said it was a Craftsman.

I've looked online for a toolbox collector website or something like that...but haven't found anything. I'd love to see the different styles made over the years from Waterloo, Craftsman, Snap On, etc. I did find a halfway decent snap on collector website...don't have the link with me now...it's on my work computer.

Yep...that's what I do at work!

I guess were just a bunch of oddballs! :lol_hitti

I have to chime in here. I have a nice ( to me ) Waterloo.

I have not seen a waterloo of this style until Lookin4'67Galaxieconv post.

And what did I learn)))) Mines a 1976 model.

Would like to talk more about these older name brand tool boxes.:bounce::bounce:

you guys are killing me here I have a 60s Waterloo 6 drawer chest that would look great sitting on there instead of the cheap 3 drawer Master mechanic its on now

I believe it. I've never seen one quite like that before...in person or on Ebay/Craigslist, etc. I have two other Waterloo rollaways, but they're both normal size, one with three drawers and a storage compartment, and a taller one with five drawers and a storage compartment. The three drawer was built in 1977, and the five drawer in 1981.

BKillian, that is a beautiful Snap on box!

Did you sandblast it or chemical strip it? How much in materials and time did it take you to get it looking that good?

Thanks! It doesn't look like that now, its been in the back of my truck for about a year now. Actually I wet sanded it, hit it with rustoleum primer, and used about 5 or 6 cans of corvette red spray paint. I took the drawers out and taped the nickel plates. This is the only snap-on I have seen these on, maybe 1970was the only year?

The date is 08 76 and above the date it says MADE IN USA but you will have to take my word for that because the paint must have been applied extra heavy the day my box was painted.

There is more to this story. a model # that I moved, a pig and a cow, and a man with 7 fingers.

Interesting, those sliders have the same clips that my Mac tool box has! I see a trend here... there must be a OEM link between Waterloo/Mac tool boxes!

JSharp has a sweet spot for Proto tools.
What does SHD mean, Elroy?
Here is my latest proto 1/2" ratchet find.

Those clips are the same as my old Craftsman box. One was missing when I pulled it out of a yard sale. Sears don't have the clips so I just made a new one out of a piece of 16G steel

SHD was the prefix to the part number. Super Heavy Duty. Someone in the marketing department must have come up with that one.

So are we seeing a link between the Proto, Mac, Matco and Waterloo vintage boxes? Did Waterloo makes these boxes for everyone?

Have a few more toolbox pics for you guys...

This is a combo I bought a little over a year ago...MAC top box and old Craftsman rollaway. Anyone know who old the Craftsman box is?
Toolchest_combo_1.jpg

Closeup of the Mac Toolchest...not sure what that spill is...looks like toxic coffee!
Toolchest_Mac_before.jpg

And the Mac box after a repaint this spring...

Haven't done the Craftsman box yet. Would like to get an orange close to the original color.

I have my great granddads craftsman just like yours not sure of its age but he had a craftsman machinists chest on top it had the hand written sales receipt from 1954 under the bottom drawer I think he got them both around the same time
Also look it over granddads set is a greenish gray and has never been painted I dont think the orange is right

Well Elroy was in the garage today working on the Hein Werner and snapped a few shot of the 1984 Proto SHD:

You do know the Spice Girls are better known as "Super Trim":

In addition to the garage roll around "set" Elroy also has a smaller top that he uses as a "machinist chest":

This was actually the original top of the set but was small. Back in '93 Grainger was closing out on this model Proto and Elroy picked up the larger top for $250. To this day Elroy thinks he got a good deal and these boxes have stood up well even if they do have "friction slides"

Those Proto boxes have a classic simplicity to them; reminds me of early Matco and Mac boxes (both had similar drawer pools early on); is there a link in a family tree with all three?

Good thing you didn't tell them you had a fully hardened and polished trim separation tool. You might have gotten a lot more than just a giggle.

Stop, Elroy has carried this too far already.

Elroy was under the impression that "trim" was universally accepted terminology for that hairy thing:thumbup:

You and I both... this is the first that I have heard the word "trim" used to mean lady parts. :headscrat

V8 was under the impression that it meant a hairless thing. :lol_hitti

Wrenchr thinks this is funny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As a retired merkin manufacturer, this is also a new term to me. I have never heard it used in this context, but what do I know. I only manufactured, installed, and adjusted merkins for a living... :lol_hitti:beer:
Don't know what a merkin is....... click here...

Example of it used in conversation?

Used to refer to the "lady part" or a woman as a whole? Ie: pointing out a woman "That's a nice bit of trim right there."

?

Since you asked, one guy might remark to another "Now that is one fine looking piece of trim" or another example " I'm gonna go get a bit of trim tonight" I hope that makes it clear enough.

See, lately I've been hearing and seeing the word "slim," sort of in place of where you would use "trim."

ie:

Those are a couple mighty fine slims in that photo with you there...
