Well after not being able to find anything on craigslist and trashing my cheap little vise I was walking through menards today getting some other things and saw they had the masterforce vises on sale. I didn't want to buy some chinese junk but looked it over and it seems to be a decent vise for the money. It was 75 bucks, http://www.menards.com/main/tools-h...rce-5-1-2-doublejaw-vise/p-1655296-c-9135.htm. It has a reversable jaw for an almost 10" jaw opening. So for the time being this will have to do until I find a nice old made in the USA vise. The masterforce also claims a lifetime warranty, not sure how they would handle it if the vise snaps in half, if they would say abuse or warranty it. One of the main things I've seen on the chinese vises is the rotating system being junk, this one looks pretty decent, a nice bar with two clamp downs and it has teeth to help hold it in place.
While not exactly what I was looking for it should do for now. They also have their 6" non reversable jaw vise on sale for 56 bucks, I couldn't see the bottom of that one to tell how the rotating system worked but it looks similar to the one I bought. Pretty good deal for anyone in the same bought as me, wants a decent vise but hasn't been able to find a good used one.
