I am either missing something in regards to operating the vise or it's frozen shut (but still turning???:dunno:). The orange cap/button on top must be some sort of quick release, but when I press it and turn the handle it does not back out. When I first got the vise it was halfway open and the guy showing the tools spin it a few times to show that it would close. I guess I should have asked him to open it back up. I'm going to give it a good soak down tomorrow and see if that helps any.

Also, anyone know who makes it? My bet is somewhere in Asia:willy_nil.

Damn lost the reply post..

Google "Coastal vise" and you should get that, and the real maker (Coastal was an importer/packager I believe)

I'm pretty sure it has European antecedents.

The orange button does lock on the threads. It's probably corroded in place a bit. disassemble and de-rust, (careful there are some smaller parts inside) Lightly lube and reassemble.

It's a decent if lightweight DP or multipurpose vise, generally for wood working.

You will want to make a set of wood jaw inserts for it and probably out of both soft and hardwoods, (so you are less likely dent the soft woods in use..)

I suspect the way it is supposed to work is you push down (or pull up) the orange button to release the nut so you can quickly slide the jaw to size. If you try turning the screw without touching the button, and it doesn't move, the nut is probably stuck in the released position. Might try spraying it with some penetrant and tapping the round boss on the bottom of the vise, to free it up.
