Seems like no wants these old machines anymore, but I find them useful. It's a Miller Thunderbolt AC/DC 225/150 Amp. The older style with the detachable leads. $200 off of Craigslist. I've been watching them for a few months and this is the best deal I've seen. The ironic thing is that I'll probably use my Lincoln 255 to build a cart for it.

When I first learned to weld it was on a stick welder. I don't use them anymore as they are not useful in my trade, but from time to time I get my hands on one.

Very nice machine. AC DC is very desireable option. My Lincoln tombstone and Hobart are both AC only. The only DC machine I have is the Miller AEAD and it gets used quite a bit for certain applications(7018 mostly). You did OK for $200, I wouldn't take that for my two AC machines.

I see tons of Tombstones for cheap which is also a great machine, but I like the Miller a little better as it has infinite current adjustment. Haven't pulled the cover yet, but the exterior is very clean. 8/10. Fan works and it welds beautifully. Love to hear that bacon crackle.

That's a good one! I could never find an AC/DC model for that low of money around where I live. So I ended up negotiating with a welding supplier for a floor model $470. Good stuff.

I like your wheel/locking caster set up. I might do something like that along with a long handle so I can tilt it back and wheel it over rough stuff plus store the cables.

Thanks! I bought the locking casters from Grainger for about $25 each. They are worth it. I can push that welder with a finger and it will keep rolling, unlike cheap casters. That was my first welding project.

The long handle would be a great improvement. I also have an eyebolt for use with a puller, but the handle idea is better. Nice thing about welding is I can still make the changes at this late date. :)

Just to mention.....
I have a Miller buzzbox too. I wished for wheels. On the bottom of the machine there is a raised "foot" at each corner that it sits on. There was a hole in the center of each foot too.
I simply got 4 caster wheels and bolted them on. Cheap, fast, easy, and it rolls in any direction it's pushed.

Another wheel option to think about if you want to make the box more manuverable.
Granted, the casters are not real good on a rolling over large obstructions though.

I may use those mounts for front casters. On the back I need wheels so I can pull it across dirt, into trailers, etc. This will be the unit I take across town when friends need help as my Lincoln 255 and bottle is like moving a battleship.

Just remembered I also have a Ready Welder I could use for my mobile unit, but setting up batteries is too much of a hassle.
