I've already got a super clean 60's 1/3 hp grinder but ran across this newer1/2 horse craftsman commercial grinder today and had to have it. Its got the original light and eye guards and a couple attachments with it. One of them is a Snap On drill bit sharpener and im not so sure about the other one. The tops nuts run up and down to allow you to lift the top plate up and down to clamp a object in there and the crank on the front slides it back and forth. Im assuming to cut a straight line in something but does anyone know if there is a specific purpose for it and or who makes it?

That is a very nice grinder setup.
Jake beat me to the manual. I must say that is one of the very few bench grinder attachments that actually looks useful. I'd like to try one in person to see how accurate they really are though. They are just a universal sliding table that can be repeatable. Sharpening chisels, planes, misc cutting tools. Most interesting to me would be the ability to accurately sharpen screwdrivers. Nice sharp square tip, even hollow grind on them.

The drill grinding attachment, well I wish you the best with that. IMHO and the opinion of quite a few machinist they are a frustrating contraption that is a good idea in theory, but not so much in practice. If you can use it as well as the makers lead you to believe, well my hat is off to you. ;)

Yes you got to love those evil tool makers...I almost bought a special lock-down for a router bit set up on my shaper; but it turns out the shaper will not reach full speed to give a clean cut through wood, but they want you to believe it will work for router bits.

I never got smart out of that drill sharpening jig, I work better with my hands and a block of wood clamped down then that jig.

FWIW, I successfully used that drill bit sharpening jig for many years. Never had a problem with it.

Interestingly, I've got a used industrial drill sharpener which cost $5,000 new. When analyzed, it's the same principle as the little jig mounted on a grinder.

I've been playing around with them and the drill bit one works pretty good but really is a pain in the *** and takes a lot of time. I sharpened a few chisels and some gasket scrapers with the other one and once u get everything adjusted right and go across the wheel kind of slow it will make a perfect cut. I bought it from a guy who's grandpa just died . He told me it didn't even have a light on it and didn't mention the extras he just said it looked pretty new and one from harbor freight was more then he was asking I talked him down to $40.

Do you have any pics of your other grinder? How rigid is the craftsman grinder attachment?
