Well, I bought me a project but my wife a daily driver anyway......
She's been wanting one of these since she saw Skyler White driving one on Breaking Bad (a AMC TV series). I'd been looking for a cheap one to fix up now an then. Then I came across this jewel for a little more than cheap, but way below its value. It's a '87 model with 125k original miles. And it shows the part, as far as condition. I have lots of little things to do to it over time, but it will stay in stock form. Eventually it will forgo a true restoration. Anyway, I just thought I'd share since there aren't many of these left out there anymore.

Very nice ! I was working at an AMC, Jeep & Pontiac dealership right about the time they stopped making those & started switching over to the downsized Cherokees. In fact at the time I was there in the mid 80s they were still making both. Sadly the majority of them in the North East where I lived at the time are long gone due to rust. Should be a great project and it looks like a nice one to start with.

Nice looking truck indeed... i don't think it looks like a 26 yr old car at all. 125k is nothing. Would it pass inspection as is?

It looks like it's in terrific condition, and I had no idea they made those that far into the 80's.....

If I'm not mistaken, the last year for the FSJ Wagoneer was '92.

Nice find. I'd love to have one of these.........with a late model hemi in it. :bounce:

There is a guy in Kerrville TX that deals in those. I assume carriers a full line of parts as well as plenty of drivers in the lot. When I drove past there back in April, I think he had at least 10 or 15 of them lined up out front.

if you don't mind me asking how much did she set you back?

'87 was the first year of some big changes produced until 1991

Not in most states. It has no catalytic converter. We do not have inspections in Oklahoma

1991 was the end of them with only a hand full made. If you have a '91, you got something pretty rare.

I gave $3800. He was asking $4400. From my research in this condition, $6000 is not a unreal number to pay for one. The NADA numbers will surprise you :scared:

Nice find and a good looking truck for sure. A few years ago I thought I wanted one and found a couple of ones that were in pretty good shape - however, I couldn't get it past the wife to okay as she didn't want anything that looked like a station wagon in the driveway + she wasn't a fan of the fake woodtrim on the outside of the beast.

Oh well...

I don't know parts availability on these things. Hopefully you'll be able to find reliable sources for used parts. I hear gas mileage is not one of its best traits.

However, if you need to withdraw from civilization when the coming madness is upon us, this would be the perfect vehicle. Lots of room to load up on those needed survival essentials.

Me, a prepper? Hell, I'd be the 1st one to die off. I don't own a gun and we keep "maybe" a four day supply of food in the house.

"Project"? That is way to nice to be considered a project. Not nearly enough rust. I mean heck you drove it home. Ain't no project. :lol_hitti

Very nice vehicle though.

Congrats!

I have a baltic blue '88 that I am restoring slowly. It's my second wag. They are money pits. I hate AMC V8s. But I can't stop, it is a sickness.

The u pull it yards near me always have several of these. They are great for engine parts for a CJ as almost all are common between the models.

Thanks for all the comments guys. I was surprised at the mileage. When I drove it back from the City, I averaged about 13.5mpg. My 2001 Yukon only got 12. I am kicking around the idea of aftermarket TBI, but like I said, I want this thing to look stock. I did have to put a radio in it for the wife. She had to have an aux port for her iPod, and the OE radio didn't work at all. This thing will never be a show truck but it has already proven to be a head turner for sure. And I hope to only increase the value as I restore certain parts of it.
