So has anybody bought a new item from snap on and then had a used one show up? I bought a thnfd72(round head) from them and the selector is all beat up and it seems to get stuck in the middle so that it just spins.

Well I bought it through the student program so should I bug the dealer that is in my area or contact snap on directly?

Bring it to their attention they will make it right. They always do. And in response to you question I think I have gotten something used, but it was slightly. A new set of the 15-19mm mini ratcheting wrenches (fabulous to have by the way). They came off the truck in new packaging. Most of them seemed oily, not clean machine oil but dirty oil. They were covered in fingerprints. One also had what appeared to be some crud in the groves of one of them. They all worked flawlessly none were marred or harmed in any way so I didn't even say anything about it. Lifetime warranty regardless so in this particular case I let it slide. I was pretty disappointed at the same time though I expect better than that out of them. But in this particular case I figured it mattered very little if they were hot off the line or fresh out of some deadbeats box that didn't pay his driver. All I know is they have a good home now and I am happy with them. Now depending on the product, like in your case I would not let that go.

If you paid for "NEW"....

I got a new to me laptop for work...turns out it's a used unit. then again, I didn't pay for it and they're supposed to be rolling out new computers this year so I guess I can't say much.

Sometimes a driver may let someone try a tool to see if they like it. I have gotten obviously new tools with greasy finger marks on them. Some people shop with greased fingers., too. Any good Snap-on will replace it with a new one, just show it to him or her, then you will see what type of customer service you get. Not everyone is the same.

I got a few banged up tools when I bought mine while attending school also...I guess they figure since you are only paying half, they could get away with slipping you a banged up tool or two... (It's kinda like going to a half price ******, she'll get the job done but she won't be as pretty.)

The three piece plier set I got yesterday had dirty marks on the middle pliers. These were sealed in plastic before I bought them. I have heard of a lot of dirty snap on tools in supposedly new packaging. There are a few SO dealers on this site. What gives guys?

Not that I am aware of. I could see it happening though as the dealer the stops at the shop is willing to let you test drive tools for a week that you are interested in buying. Usually when he does it though it is a dedicated demo. I needed a ratchet that isn't offered from Snap On but my dealer could build it using some of the parts out of a used ratchet he had in the bin and some out of a new one. Thats the closest I have came to buying a new and getting used.
